    Default Anti reflux fomula

Our paediatrician told us last week that our DD has reflux. Since she isn't as bad as our DS2 (he was on losec) he said to try an anti reflux formula which we never used with him. We have just given it to her at her last feed and she seemed to be worse than when she was having the normal formula. She was more unsettled and vomited more.

Did anyone else find that this happened? How long should we try it for before we give up and try something else?

We used karicare ha ar .. Sometimes added a thickener. And yes it helped. We only used formula until 8months and started on that one at about 6mths. I basically noticed an improvement in the amount of vomit coming up after the first feed. Ds1 still had some vomitting and pain but was able to keep more formula down.

DD was a silent refluxer, took a while to figure it out, but once we did we found Novalac AR (from chemists) worked almost straight away. She was a very mild refluxer though, but her tum must have been quite acidic as it bothered her heaps.

    Thanks for your replies.

I guess it's not right if it's making her worse after having it. I guess we have to figure out what our next step is going to be.

For my ds the karicare ha ar one was awesome but they discontinued it. He spewed way more on the s26 ar one as he was a bit sensitive to normal dairy, he couldn't have cheese or yoghurt with out spews til he was about 1. Perhaps its worth trying a ha formula next?

    Good luck

It could be the brand. Because the reflux formula is thicker, it is harder to digest which can cause more vomit.

You may want to try an HA-AR formla or the NAN AR which is already partially digested and has a prebiotic in it (be warned of smelly baby on NAN though)

Our paed recommended either the Nan or Novalac AR formulas. We tried the Nan AR and noticed an improvement within a couple of feeds.

    Good luck!
