    Thank you all for the info. Very helpful

    reading a lot on here lately about people surprised at private ob fees, surely people look into this before booking in?
    As first time parents, it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming with the amount of information we need to process and sift through.I know that ob's don't come for free. I was just asking if everyone else was paying the same amount.

    Yep pretty standard. My OB was $3k but I got $2k back (this was before
    Medicare changed the rules on the rebate) but I'll still be using him again for number two (If he's still practicing then).
    Thanks!! This is why I have also been getting confused as my girlfriends keep telling me that you get most of it back. I wasn't aware the rules had changed.

    Yeah, it used to be that you get 80% of your medical expenses over $1000 in a year back, or something like that. But then the government limited it to $270 for obstetricians, or thereabouts.

    You'll also get 20% back in your taxes for out of pocket medical expenses (over $1500 I think).

    Yes, your out of pocket seems very standard. Congrats on your bub
