I wasnt allowed to increase my rent at all. I will just stick to what i am doing atm. Today i have been told a completely different amount as to what i have in rent. Going to get a printout as i am so lost with how one moment i can be ahead by 275 and its gone down by 100 straight away. Makes no sense at all.

That does sound a bit fishy. I'd def double check.

Well, I wasn't able to reduce my over-expenditure. I ended up using a whole lot of petrol on Monday because I had to make a 100km+ trip to see my Aunty who is nearing the end of her years. She has terminal cancer and is not expected to last the week. It's a bit sad. Also- DS is sick so I had to set aside money for meds and now I only have a qtr tank of petrol and $20 left after groceries/meds for petrol. Hopefully that's enough. If I do pull it off though- I would have cracked the $1000 mark! I'm needing all the celebrating I can for the moment, between my Aunty and work- I'm just not feeling all that great. Damn work! I hate it! 603 days until I can temporarily tell this place to stick it!

I am going to keep a record of all the extra money i pay in rent now.

Sorry to hear about your aunty L.

Good luck cracking the 1k mark when you do. There will always be little set backs so dont punish yourself for them. Hugs

That sucks about your aunty. Sounds like you needed the trip though so don't feel guilty - time is something we never get back.

Myztiks - that is dodgy. Do you pay it in cash or do you pay over the net? Coz u should be able to get a statement if so. Otherwise definitely keep a record and make sure they give you a receipt each payment. U can get a rent book from the newsagent for a couple of dollars, that might be good for you?

We have been doing well, we are going to my best friends birthday dinner & drinks tonight, however that has been budgeted for over the last few weeks so I don't feel as bad. Dh has been buying his lunch every day, but as we each get an allowance each pay, if that's what he wants to waste his money on then I can't say anything.... But I still think it's a massive waste!!!

And I am going back to work one day a week in July, so well have a little extra money coming in. Ds will go to mil so no child care fees, and dh works a couple of blocks up so well probably all go up together, I'll drop him off at 7, then go to mil and get myself to work at 8.30. Dh will walk back to mil when he finishes at 4 then ill pick them both up when I finish at 5... So saving on petrol there too :-D

2db- I work as well. I get part SPP- actually I get $20 a fortnight! But it enables me to get a Pension card and full rate FTB without questions. And absolutely- come join. The more we have to spur each other on- the better.

Bec- Is it possible that you could transfer the extra rent money to a savings account? Or is that a little too accessible? I know, sometimes it's a matter of deceiving yourself into thinking it's untouchable.

SP- LOVE when you can increase the savings amount per week. Such a buzz! It used to annoy me that XDP bought his lunch every day- it's such a waste. And they don't even look for cheap options either! Buying chinese once a week is my special treat, but it's reasonably cheap as well. $8 for 3 days worth of meals!

    Hello there Widg.

Where abouts in NSW do you live? I will be selling a fair bit of household furniture- still in relatively good nick in the next 18months to help fund our trip and would be more than happy toforward on photos.

Well, savings is...going. A few minor hiccups. Needed to dip in to savings to pay for my sons Scottish kilt that I ordered from him. No huge drama. Really wanted it so was willing to do so.

Have thought of a much cheaper option for work lunches- a loaf of cheap bread, butter kept in work fridge and nutella in my drawer. Nutella on toast- much cheaper than other options.

Went and had a look at caravans as well on the weekend. It's going to be a real struggle to afford what I want but as long as I stay motivated and on task, and possibly score a good deal- I should be able to wing it. So far- I'm on track.
We're (Mum and I) are also planning a garage sale in October this year and another next year to help get together a bit more dosh. I hope I am able to be ruthless and score a bit of money to help.

Extraordinary - Sounds like you are well on track with your savings mission. good job and keep it up

This thread has inspired me to join, I am pretty good at saving, but DP is hopeless and always talks me into spending money on things we do not need. At the moment it is hard to save, we are wanting $5000 in each of our banks as fall back/emergency money. But also wanting to start saving for a deposit on a house, wedding, and wanting to get a second car next month, as well as still getting some of the essentials we need around the house. It just doesn't sound realistic to me and I feel like we aren't going to get anywhere with out some rules on tact and a good budget.

I am off to write up a budget, and look into some high interest bank accounts and hopefully get somewhere this time
