    Default Decorating/Making your MCN's

    Hi All,

I am just wondering if anyone has tried making their own Modern Cloth Nappies. If so, how hard is it and where did you start? Also, how much did the finished product end up costing you?

I havn't really had any experience with sewing so think it may be out of my league but everyone has to start somewhere right!

If making your own from scratch is too hard does anyone know of a good basic MCN I could buy and then add my own ribbons, bows, ruffles etc? Or even somewhere I can buy the pretty ruffle-bum nappies that don't have a huge waiting list or cost $100 each?

Any tips or info would be greatley appreciated, thanks!

i used to make fleece pockets. they are pretty easy to sew and don't cost a heap but they are pretty plain. i went to spotlight and got 1 metre of polar fleece and 1/2 metre of microfleece and some swimwear elastic. that makes about 3 nappies. then i got some bamboo from a co-op and made my own inserts. i think i probably spent about $50 and that got me heaps of inserts and 3 nappies. if you don't want to spend heaps on showoff nappies i would just get a couple of pretty covers that way you can just use them over the top of your nappies.

Great idea to make some pretty covers. Don't believe I didn't think of that (blaming it on the baby brain).
What material would be best to make a cover out of? Guessing a basic cover would be easier than a nappy too.

you can just use fleece. polar fleece is best and if you use 2 layers it should waterproof it enough. (my pockets have 2 layers of fleece on the outside.) but make sure you use a denim needle on your machine as it is hard to sew through 2+ layers of thick fleece.

or you can use PUL. you can get nappy cuts from online and even ebay has some.
