    Post Baby books

Hi I was wondering if anyone can recommend any good books on babies that contains info about routines, getting a child to sleep without bottle, getting them to sleep through - but I would like something that doesn't use controlled crying. Nearly every one I have found is all about controlled crying. I am not ruling out controlled crying I would just prefer something different.
Please help me - I'm tired!!

You might like to check out "The No Cry Sleep Solution" by Elizabeth Pantley. I ordered mine through Mothers Direct (ABA), but I'm pretty sure you can get it at most bookstores. She details lots of gentle ways to coax bub to sleep better, but there's really nothing else about routines in it, it only deals with sleep. I found it quite helpful.
    Good luck....

If you're not into controlled crying then I'd suggest looking up some books by Dr Sears, Pinky Mackay or Elizabeth Pantley. You don't mention how old your baby is. Probably not what you want to hear, but most non-CCing philosophies involve accepting that babies do wake through the night and that you can't develop 'bad habbits' in feeding them to sleep etc. Try googling 'natural parenting', 'attachment parenting' for other helpful sites too.

Hiya Kamikia, instead buying Dr Sears books we are using advice through online and I find it really useful. The site/link is AskDrSears.com

I think there’s a book called ‘Amazing Baby Sleep Secrets’ at the Dymocks book store at the parenting/baby section and I read couple pages it looks very promising.

    Good Luck!

    Talking baby love

hi i love baby books they give some great ideas and i get to chose what i use and what i dont.
my two complete favourites are babay love by robyn barker ,she is down to earth practical and has had her own children and experinced gran children as well as seeing mothers and bubs everyday of her working life ,i really trust her .
the other is Babies by dr christopher greene ,he is full of common sense and practical soulatons he also has a great book called toddler taming .
i think controlled crying has its pros and cons and i also think it depends on how despreate for sleep you are
tresillian have abook called how to stay sane in your babies first year its quiet good but the others are better.
books can be costly so check out your local libary (but watch for publishing dates 1980s babies books just arent relevant )
and ask your friends what they have and if you can have a look at them to see what there like before you buy them .
goodluck and remember follow your heart.

    Hi there
Not only am I a new mum, I also am a bookseller, so can tell you about a few!!
Sleep Right Sleep Tight is Australian, Contented Little Baby Book by Gina Ford is UK, Silent Nights by Brian Symon (has a bit of CC I think), plus there is a website www.saveoursleep.com. I am using her advice at the moment & it's going well. I have Secrets of the Baby Whisperer, but am not finding it useful, I find she focusses a lot on what "Type" of baby you have, and Toby can be all types in one day!!

I know of a book called Baby Wise, i don't know the author though. Everyone one i know who has read it swears by it. I think i'm going to buy the next one in series - Toddler Wise.

Robin Barker, Dr Chris Green, Gina Ford and Tizzy Hall (save our sleep) are all advocates of CCing (even if they call it by another name). I think Kamaikia wanted suggestions that didn't involve CC.

Baby Wise is by a guy named (Ezzo/Enzo???) and has been seriously discredited. There were warnings by most health type organisations to avoid this book (about 2 years ago) because the routines are too strict. It resulted in a lot of failure to thrive babies. It all comes down to common sense though.

And ditto about Dr Sear's website. It is a bit difficult to navigate but perserver, it's worth it.
