Default When did you put your toddler in a booster seat?

I have been reading alot of things, and was thinking of putting DS(3 in July) in a booster seat. Since his just over 14kgs and they're from 14-26kgs. But just reading the goverment transport sites saying booster seats are for children 4+yrs. Did you put them in when there 14+kgs, or 4+yrs? His carseat we have is now too small. (we only use it in family members cars as neither of us drive). We have a cushion booster seat. Is that ok to use for him?

DS 4 (our special AD child)
DD 21months (still on our journey)

I have a booster seat that you can put a 5 point harness on. I still have to buy the harness but we rarely use it either as i dont drive and he is mainly still in a 5 point car seat as we use others.

Coop will be 4 next month.

Sent from my GT-I9000T using Bubhub

You can get convertable booster seats that go from 8kg to 26kg. They start with the buckles like a normal seat and then you can take them away and use it just as a booster. We are getting one for our 19 month dd so the new bubby can have her seat.

by law they cannot be in a booster under the age of 4 unless they are physically too big (over the height/weight requirements) for the baby seat, NOT when they reach the minimum for the booster, but when they reach the maximum for the carseat. The maximum weight for the carseat is 18kg (although weight tested to 22kg and safe to use to 20kg) and the seat itself will tell you what the maximum height is. I have one turning 8 in 3 months and she is only just transitioning to booster position in her carseat because she's only small and still within size for the carseat. She's headed towards the maximum weight for her seat in carseat mode, but because it's a convertible booster, I'll just take the 5pt harness off it and use it as a booster. Please don't move when he's just on the minimum for the booster, a carseat is far safer for children for as long as they safely fit in them.

DS (5yo) is in a Maxi-rider. They are a 5point harness. I love it. It's on my 'best buys' list. I dread the day we have to go to a normal booster or the car seat. Nowhere near as safe.

I agree, 110%!!! I just put my dd 19 months into a maxi rider as like leighB we need her baby seat for our new bub!! I couldn't highly recommend them, they are a bit more expensive but well worth it in my opinion!!

You need a booster with an inbuilt harness. My son went in to one at about two and a half as he was too tall for his compact car seat. Hipod which is only available at target have one model. That is what i got. Its really easy to adjust. It was the highest rating booster while used in harness mode at the time i bought It. I intend to keep him in It until he is too big for the harness then i will buy the highest rating booster on the market at that time as the convertible ones rate badly once the harness has gone.

I was informed that you keep your toddler in a carseat until they reach the weight limit and/or when their eye level is at/above the top of the seat.
My boys were all four and 18+kgs before they went to a booster seat as like pp's have said they are far more safer.

I put my DS into a maxi rider at about 8 months. He hit 12kgs before 6 months though and his shoulders were too wide for his hipod (he couldnt sit right back). He is still in a 5 point harness in it

DS is in a convertible booster, and we will use it as a booster once he outgrows the 5 point harness in height, which is not going to be far away unfortunately. I wish they made car seats for taller kids/babies. It has broken my heart and constantly concerns me my little man is in seats that are designed for his height, but not his body.
