Two, dependent on their weight is the current practice. Kids who are below a certain weight (can't remember what) are encouraged to be on full fat dairy. When I was a wee lass my Mum told me that she was advised full fat until 5 as kids needed the fat to develop.

I always read two years. We changed DS onto Hilo just after two. Although he is not thin, he is not chubby either (think he would be in the lower half percentile). Has always been a fussy eater, but since we changed to Hilo he eats more! So I'm glad abouth the change, now he is getting a more varied diet, is more energetic, plus I dont have to remember two tipes of milk LOL

I think if a kid has a balanced diet they should never need low fat dairy.
Many valuable nutrients are carried by the fat in dairy.

I have never switched and my oldest is nearly 14.
I have honestly never really given it much thought. DH likes full fat milk and that's what I buy.
My kids (and DH) all seem to be fine ?

DD is 2.5 and i dont intend to switch to hi lo. Full cream is a more natural product and as far as im concerned better for us. Same goes for full fat yogurt and butter (i hate the idea of Marg Ewww hehehe)
I guess if she was over weight it would be different. Each to their own i say!

My kids don't drink cows milk, but do have yoghurt - but they have normal foods (soy and rice milk)
Unless a child has a weight issue then low fat/skim isn't necessary.
If a child does have a weight problem then the fat that they need to watch is in their entire diet
Full cream milk is only about 4% fat - chicken skin for example is way worse
