Default Stretch & Sweep when already dialated

    Hi Ladies,

I know this thread has probably been done before and I did do a quick search but I couldnt find exactly what I was after.

I had my 40wk check up today where the Dr did an internal and found that I was already 2cm dialated (which is exciting because I was begining to think I would be pregnant forever!) . He then did a S&S and said that he thought it could be up to 48hrs for labour to start but he was quite confident it would.

Im interested to hear anyone else's response about already being dialated, then having a S&S and whether labour started (and how long, if so)?

I am booked in for some acupuncture tomorrow so I think if I haven't started contracting by morning, I'll still go in the hope that that might help things along too.

Otherwise Im booked in to be induced next tuesday - which I'm not really excited about - because I'd like to labour at home if I can, but I do feel comfortable with our choice, which probably doesnt make much sense!!

    TIA!

At 40+0 I had some labour preparation acupuncture done. Then the next day at 40+1 in the afternoon I had an internal and was found to be 2-3 cm dilated already, so I had a S&S done. About 10 hours later in the night I started noticing contractions 10min apart and bub was born 16 hours later.

    Good luck!!!

At 40 weeks 5 days, I had a S&S but doctor could hardly sweep the membrance so, nothing happened and no contractions. At 41 weeks 4 days, doctor did another S&S again and nothing happened. (I wasn't dilated at all, not even 1 cm!).

I also had acupuncture at week 41 and also pressed the pressure points on my own. Still nothing happened. I tried taking evening primrose oil to softern the cervix and I think that helped.

I went to the hospital after 3 days of prelabour. I was 40+3weeks and 2cm dialated, the midwife did a stretch and sweep and told me to go home and rest. I had no sooner got home and climbed into bed when we had to turn around and go back to the hospital in full labour and bubs was born 19hrs later. Hope it all moves quickly for you
