    Default Oral thrush

    Hi everyone

Just wondered if anyone had issues with their bubs having oral thrush? I have a 9 week old and she has had thrush for at least the last 6 weeks! I have been to the GP twice (he's a tad useless) and she has gone through 4 courses of Nilstat so far
I boil all her feeding equipment and pacifiers for 20 mins a day, put Dettol in her laundry cycle, try to wash her hands regularly (and ours of course!) and rinse her mouth out with boiled h2o after each feed with no luck. Obviously the infection is still present somewhere but I'm out of ideas
I'm going to visit another GP tomorrow and hopefully can try something else but just thought I'd get your feedback first on things that may have helped clear up your child's persistent thrush. I feel so sorry for her...it can't be too comfortable!
    Thanks

Daktarin oral gel-you don't need a prescription but it is behind the counter at the chemist. Worked for DS. You put it in their mouth and it tastes ok. If breastfeeding (as I was) you can also put it on your nipples...

I also put canesten rinse through the wash. I just trusted that more than dettol given that canesten's biggest thing is treating Thrush. Make sure whatever you do find that works you continue for 7 days after it "goes away". that will just kill it some more!!!

oh and if you are using cloth nappies I would switch to disposables for a bit in case it is going through her....

Good Luck in getting rid of it!! It is the biggest PITA ever!!!

Daktarin Oral gel, nilstat is useless. Oral thrush is so hard to get rid of in lil bub's.

Hi my son was on the nilstat and I was putting the daktatin cream on my nipples for a week. I went to a different pharmacy to get more for a second week of treatment. The pharmacist said that these don't actually kill the thrush. He has put me on coconut oil (1tbls x 2 daily). I am also on an inner health plus primarily for treating candida (2 tabs a day for two weeks then 1 tab a day for a month). My son is on a baby biotic (1/2 scoop mixed with breastmilk x 3 daily). We are only on day two of this treatment however it can't hurt to try! I can't recall exactly the details but he explained to me how the fungus grows with the yeast in our body and why the nilstat and daktatin don't work long term. He also said for me to avoid - banana/apples/grapes/potato and yeast foods beer/breads etc.

Yah, I'm pleased to say that I went out a couple of days ago and got some Daktarin oral gel...worked an absolute treat...all the white disappeared after only a couple of doses, however am keeping it going for another week just to make sure!
Thank you guys for your advice

Yay! Great idea keeping up the treatment! Now it is gone make sure you wash all DDs bedsheets etc so there is no risk of re-infection.

    Good Job Mumma
