    Default Is it dead yet?

Now I think the majority of Australian were well aware that Gillard's plan for a processing centre in East Timor was dead. But the Labor government are still in denial.
Will the latest comments from the East Timor President finally put a nail in the coffin of this farce?

"Timor-Leste [East Timor] says that we will not agree to set up an asylum-seeker processing centre in the country," Dr Ramos-Horta told Timorese journalists.
It doesn't get any more clear than that. I can't believe how poorly this was constructed. It has made Australia look like a joke.

Not dead yet. Only under the radar.

    You've only half reported.

President Ramos-Horta has also been quoted as not having turned his back on the plan and is willing to consider "a comprehensive integrated arrangement..." with the Australian government.

Ramos-Horta has been widely quoted as being supportive of further investigation. It's the Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao who has been illustrated as being very anti.

    Come on, get it right.

The denial of the Labor faithful.

That quote was two weeks old and made at a time when he said he hadn't spoken with Australian officials "for months".

I'll provide you with his latest quotes again if you missed them. It's also worth noting, that these were to the Timorese journalists - so they wouldn't have been "diplomatically polite".

Timor-Leste [East Timor] says that we will not agree to set up an asylum-seeker processing centre in the country,

There should be a regional agreement and the agreement should not be made by Timor-Leste and Australia because it is not a bilateral problem.

I don't think it gets much clearer that that. But by all means, keep dreaming.

I thought this was dead ages ago.
Why should they deal with our problem?

Sadly enough I think we need Howard back (I never even liked him but he knew how to get the job done) Labor pussy foots around and is trying to be nice and please everyone (never gunna happen) and the whole setting alight the detention centre just proves how weak they think our govt is and how little they respect our country.
I know this sounds harsh but do we honestly want people in our country who set our buildings alight? This is vandal behavior and I don’t think it happened anywhere near as much when Howard was in power.
I just wish they would bring in Hockey, theres no way I will ever vote for Abbot.

I don't think we want these people either. Bowen has to be tough with these people.

THREE detainees accused of attempting gang-rape of a fellow asylum-seeker last week may become the first test of proposed "character" rules.

And just in case you missed this one from today.
Ramos-Horta's office on Friday clarified Australian media reports that he had rejected Canberra's proposal, saying it was a matter of ongoing regional discussion.
A spokesman for the president told AAP that while East Timor would not agree to a regional centre on a bilateral basis, Dr Ramos-Horta had not rejected the concept altogether.

I don't think you'll find anyone of any political persuasion who would disagree. Rape is incomparable to vandalism.

As for processing of asylum seeker claims, I honestly think neither major party is any better than the other on this.
