    Default Gaslighting

Has any one else been the victim of gaslighting?

    From Wikipedia:
Gaslighting is a form of psychological abuse in which false information is presented to the victim with the intent of making them doubt their own memory and perception. It may simply be the denial by an abuser that previous abusive incidents ever occurred, or it could be the staging of bizarre events by the abuser with the intention of disorienting the victim.

Oh wow never thought that had a word for lol My ex friend use to do it to me all the time.
She seemed to like telling everyone about all these things about me that never happened. Like... When we first met apparently she would grab my boobs all the time and make out with me etc....Im like EEWWW WTF?
Another thing she is trying to make me believe that when I was out drinking I had this old school friend give me a shoulder ride...riiight....Me roughly 80kilos at the time and he hmmm not even 60 probably. Very thin guy. I eventually asked him about it and he said it never happened lol.
She always tried this stuff with me and I never fell for it.

I'm so sorry you experienced that. Lightbulb moments can be as painful as they are enlightening - how are you doing with it?

That's the thing, I don't think they actually intend to do it? It is just what they do to control other people, confuse them etc.

I feel very, free? I no longer wonder if I am over reacting, or if I'm not good enough type things, but now its *gone* and I can 100% move on without looking back and doubting myself

Gosh, I can relate to that, too. My parents will sometimes outright deny stuff that I *know* they know happened in my childhood. It used to make me doubt myself, then it made me doubt their memories; this has given me a new perspective on it, thank you.

That's horrible..... MissY I'm glad you have found peace, I couldn't imagine living your entire life with that confusion and your parents doing what they did.

Very sad that they feel it's necessary to pretend things just never happened...

Do they think they are doing it to protect the other person from something they think they can't handle?? Or is it an intentional deliberate form of abuse to confuse the other person...? Strange

because I mean, I know there are things while growing up that my mum said never happened to protect me and shelter me... But that wasn't to intentionally confuse me and make me doubt myself..
