Default Primary Schools around Kallangur, Nth Bris

Hi, trying to decide about primary school for DS next year, but I have no idea.
Has anyone heard anything about Kurwongbah, Dakabin or Kallangur State Schools? Have you had kids that went there.
Would really appreciate any help, I've been to one of them and got told to write down my details, but couldn't even have a look around due to policies about visitors (I'm all for keeping the kids safe, but it makes it hard to see what a school's like IYKWIM)
    thanks

Can't give you any info about Kallangur or Dakabin, but have heard nothing but wonderful stories about Kurwongbah. It has a very broad curriculum (ie even has all of the Arts strands), loads of extra curricular activities, has a well established G and T program, and my DH (who teaches at a local high school) says the best of their students come from Kurwongbah (and also Undurbra, just to throw another idea at you). My only concern at the moment is that they do combined grade classes (ie prep/1) which will suit my DD to an absolue Tee, but i wonder if it's an issue for the year 1 side of things? We're about to look further into Kurwongbah and Petrie ready for the big decisions for next year

Best of luck with the decision and hope someone else can help you out with the other schools (oh and Kurwongbah are having their fete on the 22nd of next month which would be a good opportunity to look around prior to their open days...we will be lol)

thank you! I'd also heard nice things about Undurba, but we're not in its catchment area, so it's off the list for us.
It's much further for us to drive to Kurwongbah, but I've heard mostly good things about it, so I think we might be headed to the fete to sneak around and check it out too... thanks again

    - would still love any other opinions out there

my DS1 is in prep at Kallangur State School. Ive found it to be really good. He loves going there, his teacher is very good. He is in the combined Prep/Year one class and has learnt heaps. He can now pretty much read a book, Write sentances, Knows some basic maths even! He is 5.

when we went for the interview at the beginning of the year with the principal they actually sit u down one on one and go thru a series of questions and tests and activities with your child, which i thought was quite good.

i like the prep levy too. a one off fee instead of paying seperately for school books and supplies. u pay one fee that covers everything for the whole year.

oh and theyve also just added a new building (just being finished being built now), and put a whole heap of new play equipment in as well.

anyways, i could really blab on about it, he loves it, i love it. if u want to ask me any specific questions im happy to answer

hi i havent personal had anythign to do with Kurwongbah but have heard it is great my DS's prep teacher last year wife teaches there! My DS is in year one at Kallangur and DD#1 will be starting PREP there next year........ it was the perfect choice for us all of the staff are really approchable and flexible. there are lots of extra-cur. stuff for the kids and parents ( teaching begining reading classes to help the flow between classroom and home etc), they do swimming ( own pool ) have vegie gardens and chooks and a great range of specialist teaching staff...... WE love it and deffently made the right choice.... if you have any specific questions about kallangur please ask

but i do think checking out the schools on non specific parent days is a great idea! i was turned down when i asked to do this at one of the schools i looked at, but i think most of them will take you for a walk around

Would still love it if anyone knows anything about some of the other local schools if anyone out there has had experience with them.

amandaw or cupcakes, do the prep aged kids have their own playground? I noticed at some schools they seemed to have a seperate area, but went to have a walk down at KSS today and alll the gates were locked- decide getting a 4yr old to jump the fence isn't really the behaiviour I want to be modelling thanks

I'm not sure...will ask my family daycarer (she does the school run in the afternoon)...if so, I'd imagine it is prep/1 at kurwongbah since that's how the classes are.

Preps eat on their own ( with theteachers ) and have a prep year 1 playground but the prepies wear yellow hats it really helps with knowing who is a newbie in playground when their regular teacher isn't on duty.
