    Default Top ten parenting skills

    http://www.scientificamerican.com/ar...-a-good-parent

The top two ranked parenting skills are showing love and managing stress. Taking care of yourself and your stress levels is way more important than managing behaviour or safety. Fascinating stuff.I think this is a great article, with some surprising but sensible results.
What do you think? I tried the quiz that tests your parenting skills based on the ten skills, and only got 50% got some work to do I think!
    Now we are six: DH, Me, DD1, DD2, DS1 & DS2.

Okay, so I got an overall percentage of 88%.

My worst areas were healthy lifestyle & behaviour management. I don't understand how they score the healthy lifestyle (I'm assuming physical health?). We all eat very healthily and have a fairly active lifestyle (could be better, of course....).

As far as the behaviour management goes... I think I scored badly on that one, because I don't *reward* good behaviour. Gosh that sounds bad, but what I mean is, we are not really into 'good girl/naughty girl' stuff here. Things are what they are... for example, if I ask DD not to touch something, I probably won't say 'good girl' when she does what I ask. Is this bad do you think?

My goal is that they think things through for themselves, so that they can self-regulate their behaviour rather than relying on someone to give them praise or reproach. I want them to do the right thing, even when they could possibly get away with doing the wrong thing.

Well, that's the goal anyway. Time will tell lol.

I got 78%.. the religious side let me down a lot and stress management. I am a stresser, I really need to learn how to deal with my stress.
