can adults catch hand,foot and mouth diease/virus from a child

Hi my fiance and I have got a 17 and a half month old little boy who has been sick since last friday at first we noticed that he had a croaky like flemy cough but then by late saturday he was getting irritable and screaming/crying etc as we had no idea what was going and had high temperatures,we tried to ring a doctor surgery to see if we could get a after hours doctor to come out to our house but told us it would be a 3 to 5 hour wait and I said that wasnt good enough as we were very concerned about our son.We decided to take him to the redlands hospital at the emergency department to have him seen by a doctor and the doctor had told us that he had a virual infection and that he had blisters etc on his tongue and then diagnosed him with hand,foot and mouth diease I asked him how he could have picked it up he might have picked it up from the childcare centre he attends.

Can anyone out there let me know if adults can catch hand,foot and mouth diease/virus symptoms from a child who has got this virus if you could please email me at sweetgurl_24@live.com.au thankyou

yep you can. My BF got it when her little boy had it.
Then her hubby got it when their little girl got it.
Sorry i dont know about symptoms etc

Hey there, just found out yesterday that my 2 year old has this now and probably caught it from her day care center too last week as a few of the kids are out with it. She is in a lot of pain with huge mouth ulcers, spots & blisters on her hands and feet today. She wont eat anything and am finding it hard even to get yoghurt drinks into her and she is crying with the pain. Am giving her paracetamol every 4 hours but it seems to wear off very quickly. She's not sleeping either and only got about 4 hours sleep all of last night and the same the night before.

Trouble is that I may be pregnant and am terrified that I may catch this from her now. GP took blood test today and will get results back on Thursday to see if I am pregnant and also to see if I have the virus.....

Havent heard of many adults getting this though so am keeping my fingers crossed!!

I caught it off my DD1 when she was 5months old. Its not a nice thing to have. Infact I felt so horrible.
