    Default Fleshy thing poking out

Have had light postnatal bleeding until yesterday when I soaked a maternity pad. Now I have something fleshy dangling from my vagina. It's not painful but at the same time I don't want to tug at it. I'm still bleeding but it's not as heavy today.

Should I let things happen naturally or see a doctor?

Is it attached to you? Sometimes it can look a bit...odd..for a while until it heals.
Could be a bit of retained placenta...I had a few bits fall into the loo a few days after birth...

Could be a bit of retained placenta...
I gave birth about two weeks ago now. I think it is part of the placenta..or part of the sac?
My placenta was ragged at birth but the doctor harvested what I thought was all of it.
    It's not painful.

Yeah definitely could be. My placenta pieces looked like a piece of liver, dark reddy-brown coloured so not at all like normal skin. Pretty gross really haha.

Oh no. Mine is white/creme, like a blown out balloon.
I think I'd better ring the midwife

Did you have an episiotomy or tears? Sometimes the body goes into overdrive when healing those, creating "proud flesh", which is too much skin growing back. I had it with my first episiotomy, my husband just had it recently with a cut on his thumb cuticle. Mine wasn't picked up until my 6 week checkup, so it may be too early for it to be that. If it is that, it will prob have to be removed, the method will depend on how much there is. Mine was cut away, DH had his burnt off with silver nitrate.

Midwife reckons it's part of the amniotic sac coming out.

It's now about 15cm long and it appears to be coming out naturally. It's like a long, white and bloodied rope.

Still no pain but slight ache has started as per what I feel during the beginning of a period. I have a pad in and I'm bleeding away merrily. Midwife says this is the body's way of expelling what it doesn't want.

Midwife also suggested I roll my finger around the 'rope' and gently tug. (I instantly thought, she's telling me to go pull myself. HAHA!)

So there I am, squatting and checking this thing out, I give it a tug and it doesn't move but there's a release of blood and mucus.

And I'm like, eww, I could be the bath and that could be the bath plug kind o' thing and there may be a lot of bathwater up there so I call her back, tell her, she mutters something about hoping I don't have a secondary haemorrhage and tells me to come into the clinic this evening after rush hour.
