I think people without pets are SMART! How nice not to have to worry about who feeds your pets when you go on holidays.

Meh. I just had to put my cat down so I totally get why people don't have pets. I don't judge either way.

I would love a pet but it would be irresponsible at this stage...we are doing heaps of travelling in the next few years, so we don't have the time or finances for a pet.

It's nice not having to worry about caring for a pet at this stage, but I do look forward to getting one down the track

This thread is over a year old and totally freaked me out! I know the OP in real life and know she has pets and I was thinking 'omg what happened to her pets?'

    Phew.

I have got the whole who will look after my pets when I go away thing all sussed

I am building boarding kennels, so once they are up and running well I will be able to employ a very wonderful person to run my kennels for me while I go away which of course also means they will look after my animals That also means I don't have to worry about how many dogs - within reason -I have as I won't have to pay for the boarding as such

I am an animal lover through and through but I don't believe everyone should have them. I devote my spare time to rehoming unwanted dogs and it's very simple, people should be made to do a course, spend a day destroying unwanted dogs and being educated on proper nutrition and training before they are allowed one. There are so many bad pet owners out there that I would much rather them not have one than ruin a perfectly healthy and happy puppies chances of survival. I cringe when I hear of people breeding their dogs. I always think to myself, well there is another lot of puppies we could possibly have to make the hard decision for in a few weeks/months or years time. Pets are a lifelong commitment and if you aren't willing to give that to them, in my opinion I would prefer you to not have one.

I agree however people can breed litters ethically and never have any end up in the pound or shelter system. So while many should not own or breed not everyone is the same and there are ethical breeders around.
