    Default Merina (sp) iud

Anyone have one? What are your thoughts.

If my ultrasound shows nothing up, I will be getting one in order to stop my af being so horrendous as I'm still bf and can't go on the pill.

    Thanks ladies.

Hi, I have one for the same reason. I had it put in early November 2009. AF was really terrible and I don't actually need contraception as my girls are are ICSI. It feels weird to have contraception as I haven't used any since 1993.

For just over 4.5mths I bleed pretty much continuously. Sometimes light, sometimes like a normal AF. But not like my normal AF, my normal AF was SO heavy. It was horrible. My Gyno told me if it worked for me then I could expect to go to a normal period and he doubted very much that I would get nothing or minimal AF like some women do. After just over 4mths he told me that maybe it wouldn't work for me but suggested leaving it a little bit longer. (For me it was that or a uterus ablation so I waited.)

Then suddenly at just over 4.5mths after getting it put in it stopped. And best of all I just get spotting which can be easily missed for 1 or sometimes 2 days roughly every 6 weeks.

have no idea. my af is really bad and the dr said since i am bf i cant take the pill and this is what they do instead. i have no idea about any of it so im here asking any of the lovely bubhubbers what they think.

all i know is there is one that releases a low doss of something and thats what a friend was on as she is another one who cant take the pill.. lol

ill be finding out more next week when i go back to the dr

I got one put in 2 weeks ago, I started what seemed like af a week ago, some days it seems like a light/mild af & some days it's very light spotting. I'll see how it goes & how long I bleed for.

Apart from a few mild cramps going in, the insertion didn't hurt at all. I don't regret getting it at all.

Yep, well for me it did.

I had horrible cramps but couldn't take much for them except panadol/panadeine/mersyndol due to other medication I take. And I was SO heavy that I had to be quick or get to the toilet really often if I went to the shops etc.

Before the initial bleeding stopped when I think may have been my normal AF time it was still dreadful pain wise probably the worst couple of days I had had in a while but not too heavy. (Might have been heavy for someone who didn't have heavy AF though.) But after that there was no pain at all.

My Gyno did seem to think it would be very unlikely it would get any better than a normal AF and no pain due to how bad it was but I guess I got lucky.

Sometimes I do feel a slight twinge in my tummy but it's seriously nothing and doesn't hurt at all. And I only need a liner 1 or 2 days every 6 weeks at the most. Sometimes I will go 12 weeks without noticing anything.

I had mine put in under a local. It did hurt and it was crampy for a while afterwards and I felt shaky. I think because I expected it to be similar to a pap smear and I felt a bit funny about having it put in.

eta: It would be the progesterone iud. (It's only a small amount) I doubt the copper iud would help with heavy AF as I have heard it make's AF heavier.

thanks danielle. i wish i had known about this years ago. have sufferd with the stoopid things for 15 years now.

thank goodness i had dd and found out.!!

i have to get a pa smear before they will put it in as well even though i had one when i was preggers.

so when you had it put in was a bit sore and a heavy period then 4 months of your usual period then all ok?

sorr for the 10b questions i want to get my head around it all.
