Cat napping

My 3 1/2 month old DS does nothing but cat nap ALL day long, it is driving me insane i cant seem to get anything done at all, he is fine aslong as i keep bouncing him in the rocker he will stay asleep but as soon as i stop *BANG* hes wide awake and screaming i cant really complain about his night time sleep as he does 12 hr stretches but i think that mainly is because he doesnt get a good enough sleep of a day time i have no idea how to get him out of cat napping cause i hate hearing him cry which i know is prob the only way to do this... anyone else had a cat napping bub?? what did u do ?

My 3 month old is the same! He seems to nap during the day but will sleep for hours if I or someone is holding him, very frustrating!! He is not yet sleeping through the night though which is making me more tired as I'm up with him at night and during the day.
I want to try self-settling him because now that he is getting older I would like it I could put him down in his cot, without him crying screaming, and put himself to sleep. I know this may be wishful thinking but any advice from mums who have done this and succeeded?

i was thinking of doing the same thing, but wasnt sure about doing it at his young age. I didnt start doing it with my DD's till they were about 6 mnths old. So im the same anyone else used this method in a young bub ??

Ds now 61/2 mths was a chronic catnapper from 2-5mths so I feel your pain.He slept 11 hrs at night and did self settle for his sleeps but would wake after 45 minutes during the day. Im not sure if he just grew out of it but around that time he started sleeping longer I did the following things so maybe one will help for you.
- I had previously given up resettling because patting only made him more upset and rocking would take about 45 minutes so seemed at bit pointless, however I decided to give it one more go so picked him up and rocked him everytime he woke up early from a nap and didnt put him down till he was properly asleep. It took 45 mins the first few times then over a week it got less and less untill he stopped waking at the 45 min mark.
At this time he was also diagnosed with mild reflux and went on xantac. Also did other things to help reflux like raising the cot end. So if your baby is a bit spewy maybe ask a dr if this could be a reason.
Having always followed eat play sleep routine I added in a top up feed before his morning sleep incase he was waking with hunger. Not feeding to sleep still putting him in awake.
Not sure if it was one thing or a combo that seemed to help but I know how much I was keen for suggestions at the time.
We did a sleep and settle day early on and they said catnapping was one of the hardest things to break. Good luck

Hey there, we were the same! Bubs was a chronic catnapper, and it was obvious he wasn't ready to get up after 45 min. Sounds a bit weird but used a combo of Save our Sleep and No Cry Sleep solution - basically, I did everything I could to get bub to sleep during the times that 'normal' sleeps happened, ie, 9-11am, 1-3pm and 4:15 to 5:00pm. In my case would have pram ready to go and runners on when I knew he was going to wake up early, and put him in and walk for rest of sleep. If it was raining I'd stroke his face instead, (patting/rocking never worked for us). Anyways, after about a week he stopped waking up, and has been reliable sleeper about 90% of the time since. (Ha! until now - think he is about to drop the last nap - is nearly 7 months - playing in the cot the whole time now)

Also had about a week where suddenly had to give him three breakfasts - one at 5, one at 7 and one at 8:30 am. Asked MCHN if normal and she said he was cluster feeding in morning not evening - and just to go with it and be greatful that it wasn't happening during the night!
