    Default Hello Southsiders!

Good afternoon fellow Southsider Mums and Mums-to-be! We've our own nice and shiny new spot to meet, chat and share our tales!

I hope this post finds you well!

I'm in Weston Creek, I'm (relatively) new to Canberra but am guessing I count as Southside? I hope so, everything North seems so far away!

Nice work Apfel! I guess, all things being equal, there should probably be a northside section as well?

I'm in Kambah, so not far from you at all. Hope everything is going well for you & your growing peanut How are you liking Canberra?

I've started looking into childcare in our area today... I shudder at the thought of having to go back to work. The waiting lists are so long for the good centres, that I think I've missed the boat. Maybe I can just get pregnant again lol.

    Hi -I'm a Southsider too

Apfel - we've lived in Canberra for about 8 months, but I still feel like I'm new Hope everything is going well for you and you are getting settled.

Susanne - we are in Conder, so a bit further south. We go to swimming in Kambah on Saturday mornings (at Young's). We put our name down at about 4 childcare centre a while ago and there were about 70 people in front of us!! I'd really like Angus to get in even if it's just one day a week and I don't go back to work, because I think he would love it!!

We are going up to Brisbane for a week to have a Birthday party for DS with all the family up there. It would be great to catch up some time though..

Susanne, I agree re needing a northside section, I just happened to check the ACT area and saw this spot, perhaps the other is on it's way?

And I'm loving Canberra! I'm from the NT so the seasons changing and the beautiful countryside is all such a novel experience and it's so beautiful! I have to confess, I've been here for a couple of years, but for some reason I just always feel like I'm new here, and trying to fix all the suburbs etc in my head has been impossible!

Childcare here seems to be really difficult to find, and the waiting lists are so cut throat! I'm fortunate in that my MIL does family daycare from her home so I've put this one down with her, it was a massive load off my mind when trying to work all that out (still negotiating mat leave at the moment, but definitely intend to return to work).

I'm 22 weeks this week, finally getting a bit of a tummy which is exciting! I'm a FTM so every experience is new, so far it's all going well! How about you?

Mum2Angus, welcome to Canberra! And enjoy your travels! We should definitely look into meetups when you get back to town.

Apfel - Wow that would have been quite a contrast moving from the NT to here! DH & I came from Brisbane about 5 years ago & can't imagine living in that awful heat/humidity anymore! I know what you mean about the suburb names. There are so many - I just remember the main ones. Slowly getting better - might even sound like a local one day lol

Mum2Angus - I hope your flying up there otherwise it's a very long drive! We've just come back from doing the drive - were up there for 2 weeks for family to meet Ollie.

I'm definitely up for meeting, feel free to add me on facebook, my link is the facebook thread.

We had one of those days today... Ollie is teething, yes very early I know. Been so grizzly all day. And there's not much you can give a 3 month old for teething either I might take him to the mums and bubs session at the movies at Tuggers tomorrow... If we get up early enough to get there on time...

Apfel - I posted in the "Want a new section for your area" thread in ACT and reported it to the mods, so they created this one. I can do another one for the northside if you think - but it might create a bit of Northside/Southside thing - but oh well...

Susanne - yes we are flying - luckily! We went up for Christmas and we were supposed to drive up with DH, but unfortunately my sister's dog (that used to be mine) passed away the day before we were supposed to leave, so I flew up with DS straight away. We also had our flights booked to come back cause we stayed there longer than DH. I can't imagine doing the whole drive with a baby on top of it That's no good about the teething. Can you give him panadol? Our paediatrician told me not to hesistate in giving DS panadol or infant's friend, so I used to have to give him that before bed all the time at one stage. It was probably when he was teething, but I didn't realise that until I actually felt the tooth.

Anyway, I better go to bed cause we have an early flight tommorow and I still have a bit to pack in the morning.

Can't wait for the weekend to celebrate DS turning 1 (I just wanted to add that smilie too)

Hi Tainted - my son is Oliver as well And he's only a few weeks older! Did you go through Canberra Hospital?

Mum2Angus - Hope your trip is going well. How did the big "1" celebrations go? I got Infants Friend for him last week but it doesn't seem to do much so I don't know if it's worth persisting with. I didn't know that about the panadol - thx! I had thought he would be a bit young for it still.

I'm going to the mums & bubs movie at Woden on Thursday - would anyone be interested in meeting up there?
