Hello Everyone!!!
I had to work hard to find my thread again...it has been buried by everyone else's surrogacy stories! It always astounds me as to how many people are in need of the amazing science that is surrogacy.
Firstly I want to thank all the wonderful people out there who didn't forget me in my 'quiet time' on the forum and who wanted to keep up with what I was doing.
In short, I was hit pretty hard many months ago when we had a potential surrogate who showed an enormous amount of enthusiasm but very suddenly pulled out of the agreement. We had spent a few months getting to know each other and chatting online but because there was a bit of distance between us, we hadn't met. I look back in hindsight and think, THANK GOODNESS! we didn't continue that relationship as I can now take note of things that perhaps weren't quite right but was ignoring because I wanted/needed her SO MUCH.
After all that happened I did keep reading the posts but didn't feel up to posting anything (sorry girls!). I was just getting back to basics and getting on with my life...back to work, home, family and very importantly, looking after my one and only bubby girl(she's not that small anymore but a cute pic nonetheless!).
My life was going nicely and I was even not thinking about the whole surrogacy thing every minute of every day (it does become all consuming). I should have known normal doesn't stay normal for long...but don't worry...this is a good change! Now after all that has happened to me I was a bit anti-baby shower but for some reason, had agreed to go to one
. I nearly didn't go but as my friend and I had already bought the gift...we were going! Now this is a very good friend of mine and I wanted to tell her that I read an article about Monash IVF having their first surrogacy pregnancy on the Gold Coast (this was very exciting to me as we had travelled to QFG in Brissy before this). Baby shower goers are very nosey people and soon surrogacy was up for general conversation. I was feeling a little intimidated and wanted to shrink into the couch!
What quickly got me out of the couch was one baby shower goer (hope you don't mind me referring to you as that!!!) chirped up saying "I would do that for someone!". I recall I may have gotten very loud and repeated over and over that I in fact DID need someone to do that! So, to cut to the chase, we met up and very quickly decided that this was going to work for us and we are now setting up a legal agreement.
For those of you that are desperate for information about surrogacy here are the details for us so far. We are using Monash IVF which is at Allamanda Medical Centre on the Gold Coast. After dealing with QFG in Brissy this has been a welcome, one because of the location (no astronomical parking fees and travel time) and mostly because of their focus on US. Christine, the coordinator, is so focussed on us that it feels like she's working FOR us!! We feel very special there. From there they organise everything, fertility specialist which is Dr Justin Nasser, in house counselling with Geraldine Coyne, lawyer referral to Amy Sanders-Robbins of Michael Sing Lawyers and the whole egg retrieval and transfer phase. They also quote you for the whole process which I found much better than the 50 individual costs from QFG that I had to add up and work out what applied.
To date, we have completed our counselling sessions - 2 for each couple and then one combined one. Pretty harmless stuff. I have a draft agreement completed and we are waiting for our counsellor's report and signing of the agreement from my surrogate and her hubby.
After this, Christine has told me it will go to their review panel which is herself, the counsellor and the fertility specialist and it is a really informal process to check all the boxes have been ticked. Much better than all the scary ethics committee stories I have read about on bub hub. Once that has been done we can START!!
All this since August!!!
We have already decided that we will go to GC Hospital (public). Would love the private hospital experience that Karen wrote about (that is where I had my first baby) but my surro doesn't have private insurance. It should be great though...I was born at GC Hospital, she had her two bubs at GC Hospital and I have already spoken to their NUM and she is very supportive of surrogacy in the hospital. Besides, it will save us waiting periods for private and the expense of which is enough anyhow!!
I will try to keep up with more regular updates now and that way, the posts should not be full length novels. Karen, I'm competing with you for longest post!!
Thanks again everyone for all the messages of support and I'll chat to you soon! We are feeling so lucky at the moment that we feel like pinching ourselves. I've even allowed myself to start thinking about arranging rooms and even asking our bubba girl if she wants a little brother or little sister. I might even feel strong enough to part with those beloved maternity clothes that I couldn't part with...way too sad!
If anyone else is out there struggling to find a surrogate, I hope you find some solace in the fact that it CAN JUST HAPPEN when you least expect it. It is the biggest cliche but it is so true for us. It really makes me believe in FATE (although I still don't know why what happened to me HAD to happen - that's bad fate) and the impact of decisions that we make in life.
Chat soon
Tracey
PS Aimee - I'm not ignoring you! I'm just having that really hectic week at work (you can tell by this post hey!) but I'll chat to you soon about catching up. Looking forward to it :-)
PS Karen - are you going to keep posting?? It won't be the same without you!
PS My lovely 'surro' friend - our story is published!!!

It's moving along well! I am on Synarel nasal spray to down-regulate and then start injections on the 17th (hopefully). All going well, I will be doing egg retrieval on the 1st of March!!!! As it will be a fresh transfer, it will only be another 5 days until it happens![]()
