I've never lived there, but have visited a bit. North side is where most of the shops are, and some say the better side to live on. The coast isn't that far, try googling a place called Yeppoon, it's not far from Rockhampton and is the beach. It's not a huge city but has everything you need. The lookout is great at night. The lights spell out 'HEll' lol.

    Hi Mich,

I can't help too much, I lived there for 5 years without school aged kiddums... But my friend went to Emmaus, and then sent both her daughters there. She loves it and constantly recommended it to me.
The big shops are Northside, but there is also a little shopping centre on southside.
I lived in Park Avenue and liked it, but it's not one of the nicer suburbs.
The really nice suburbs are around Mt Archer.
Wandal and surrounds are some of the less-desirable suburbs. Don't live in the CBD area of southside... And not a nice place to be out at night... (East Street, which is the main street is ok, but up near some of the older pubs can get you into trouble).
Yeppoon is about 30-40 mins from Rocky. Coming from the Gold Coast, I wasn't that impressed, but from there you can go out to Keppel. And Wow!
There is some awesome fishing to be had around here, I think Gladstone is better for fishing, that's an hour south of Rocky (and where I live now).

I hope someone with more specific knowledge replies
