Default *Spin off* Emoticons and punctuation

Now that we've unearthed a whole lot of pedants previously hidden in the Hub, I thought I'd take this one to the polls...

Should emoticons be placed within punctuation ?
    or...
Should emoticons be placed outside punctuation?

    Poll to follow...

I voted other - I didn't read the punctuation thread but it was 1000000% refering to ppl like me - who follow no rules, have no idea what the rules are and grate on the nerves of those ppl who find punctuation important.

So yeh, I voted other - cos I never thought about it, don't really mind either way and have no idea what the proper thing is.

I post inside the punctuation when i want the emoticon to cover the entire sentence, and outside the punctuation when it isnt' applicable till the sentence is over.

ETA: and apparently there are days when my keyboard simply doesn't register that i told it to insert a specific punctuation mark. *sigh*
