Default Sudden attachment to toy...is it normal?

My DS is 3.5yrs old and in the last month or so has become really attached to his toy monkey. He has always slept with it, that doesn't worry me at all, he was happy to get up in the morning and leave monkey on his bed. Lately he has been carrying monkey around with him most of the day when we are home, and we have to take it when we go out...I make him leave it in the car to 'look after his seat' if we are at the shops coz I don't want it to get lost.

I'm just wondering if it is normal for kids of this age to suddenly become attached to their toys...or should I be looking for something that has happened to make him need it?

My daughter does exactly the same thing with her Elephant. She has "lost" it three times out in public and thanks to honest people we have always found it being "babysat". Thank God.

It is now banned from leaving the house.

As soon as she gets home from Daycare it is the first thing she goes to get and like your son she carries it EVERYWHERE with her at home.

I am only assuming it is a faze they are going through - but I hope it stops eventually.

Like your son's Monkey it was orginally a bedtime toy that she had since she was born.

Ellie Elephant has become "attached" to her arm for about 18mths now.
I've been touched by the friendship angel.

I was wondering this same question myself. My 3 yr old has suddenly taken to his Ferbie. Like badly, he even rides in the car with us, he takes him to bed. I was thinking maybe it was because I took him out of daycare which he used to go to once a week. But he kept getting to sick. So we took him out for a while and it seems he has conpensated with the ferbie. Maybe was there a change weather it be small or large around the house or something routine?

Thanks guys I was hoping it was pretty normal...I can't really think of anything that changed to make him need the extra security tho. Our dog died a few mths ago, but that was ages before he decided his monkey had to go everywhere with him. Nothing else has really changed...we were never big on routines...maybe I should have been?

Yes its normal Jessica has a pink pillow which we nicknamed hippo which she got a from family friend for x'mas and she slept with it from day one and was willing to leave him in the cot after she wakes up. now as soon as she gets up she goes "hip" "hip" asking for hippo and takes her to breakky but leaves him behind when we go to daycare but picks him up as soon as we get home. Last Friday unfortunately she took him to a friends house and shopping. She stayed over at mum and dad's place one night while Graeme and I went to the movies (she wasn't supposed to stay the night but fell asleep and mum said to pick her up the next day) mum gave her a pink pillow and she slept with it and was fine without it. i don't know how she would be now if this happens again
