Right, I saw two definite mistakes today and one that I'm pretty sure is incorrect but didn't want to mock them until it was confirmed on here

The two definite mistakes were loofer instead of loofah, raison toast (WTF?!) and the one I'm pretty sure was wrong involved an apostrophe (or lack thereof). The sign said "we will beat any competitors price". Now I would have thought that it should read "we will beat any competitor's price". Am I right?

And they were all on professionally printed signs which always makes me shudder. Who proofreads these?!

Oh yesss!!! Argh! I can tolerate them in a text message, but in a post that is otherwise fully written out, the above abbreviations irritate me a bit.

I have the most appalling grammar and spelling. And I took 4 unit English in the HSC. I was told by the teacher that it didn't matter that I was so bad, no one cares anyway:eek

I hate that I am so terrible - my mother is a published (and awarded) writer and creative writing teacher - how embarrassing!

    I say anyhoo - it's a colloquialism.

Now I am not sure about this one... would love some other opinions on it. I guess technically it could mean competitors as a plural. There is likely to be more than one competitor. On the other hand the price is definitely possessive. Perhaps it should be:

We will beat any competitors' price?

    Thoughts anyone?

I was thinking "competitors' price" too. But I think it's correct as "competitor's" because the sign is referring to individual competitors within a group, not a group of competitors, if that makes sense.
