Ohh, I found a big one lately. Anyone noticed how on eBay, all the clothing categories are listed like the following:

    Boy's clothing
    Girl's clothing
    Men's shoes
    etc etc
    .......ALL WRONG!!!

    It should be:

    Boys' clothing
    Girls' clothing
    Mens' shoes
    etc.

Unless all the boys' clothing is actually just for one very lucky, very well dressed boy!

However I believe that "women's" and "men's" are both correct, as the words "women" and "men" are already in plural form. You couldn't write womens', as it would mean "belonging to womens".

Ok, given the nature of this thread. I am asking for help.

When using brackets, where do I put the full stop?

    I'll give you an example.

I need to go to Southland (I can't get what I need down the street).

My oven has just stopped working (I only bought it six months ago).

    Thanks!

Those two examples are correct. This is because the section in parentheses is contained within your sentence, and that sentence requires a full stop to complete it. If, however, you were to write an entire sentence contained in parentheses, then the full stop would go before the closing parenthesis. (It would look like this.)

    Here's a link or two.

You could be right. Although.....my Mac's autocorrect red squiggly line thing didn't correct me on the "men's" whereas it did correct me with "women's" But I can see where I was mistaken.

I know this was done way back in the first few pages, but I need to vent about your and you're! I have seen more than one primary school teacher on here and on Facebook who use your instead of you're all the time

Yep, drives me crazy too. It's my most hated grammatical mistake.

With all the royal wedding talk this weekend ive seen more than one "vowels" instead of "vows" - as in "What lovely vows!"

(Unless the person is commenting on Prince Williams pronunciation that is haha!)
