I never know when to use practice or practise. Sometimes I get tricked by affect and effect

This one annoys me too, and when people (mostly my DH) pronounce castle as 'cass-el' rather than 'cah-sel'.

I worked with a girl who was studying speech pathology and she told me that it was a topic of discussion in one of her tutorials. She said she nearly flipped her lid at all of the people saying cassel because she believes its the other way! They did a poll though and it seemed split down the middle, and the lecturer said it really just comes down to dialect. Even knowing that though, it still makes me cringe everytime I hear it!

2 weeks ago a teacher wrote on the blackboard of a Year 10 English class:

"Pay particular attention to spelling an grammer"

None of them picked up on it!

It took all I have not to take out my phone to take a photo of it!

I do that sometimes to see if the kids notice. Sometimes I make mistakes without knowing and when the kids point it out, I tell them I was doing it to see if they would notice

It was funny because she didn't know what she did and I didn't point it out to her either lol

It was funnier because she wrote "spelling" an "grammer" in large writing and underlined both words!

Practice is the noun - I went to soccer practice, the doctor's practice. Remember it because 'ice' is a noun.
Practise is the verb. I practise the violin. (Omg my iphone doesn't think this is a word!!!???)

Affect - verb. I hope the chocolate I just ate doesn't affect my sleep.
Effect is the result - the effect of the chocolate is the lack of sleep.

    HTH!

Another one that really annoys me (I think it was mentioned above) is aloud instead of allowed.

Yes, I too can't believe the number of 'sort after' properties I've seen. It must be something taught at real estate school!
