It's all the more ironic in a spelling and grammar thread

That is satisfying lambjam. Although, it's also rather time consuming!

Perhaps you could take a red pen out and about with you today? I was at a shop where they had gift box's. Where was my red pen then?!

I also pointed out to another store owner that she had written definately on her window sign. She didn't seem overly pleased to be told it should be definitely.

I had a similar situation when I told a hardware store owner that her security signs all over the store were spelt incorrectly. They all said "Smile, your on camera" *shudder*

The your/you're thing is probably my biggest pet hate, and it's so wide spread

    Did you mean `gift boxes'?

    More from me...

The various spellings of exercise (usually excercise)

Psychology/psychologist/psychiatry/psychiatrust all being spelled without the h. Aarrgghh!

Someone clarify for me though, what's the plural of roof? If hoof is hooves, is roof rooves?! There's a sign near my house for a guy that "restores rooves" and I swear I thought it was roofs.

Not sure if it's been done but it's formula, not formular.

My son's kindergarten teacher was most unimpressed when I pointed out the spelling mistake she'd made on the class's enormous painting of "Parliment House".

I think that's why Basil wanted the red pen .

Oh that is a good one!

I have a question... in this new age of internet speak, where are we meant to place emoticons?

Within the punctuation, like so ?
    Or outside?

I struggle with this every day (not everyday as I see all too often, there is a difference people!).

    I'm sure you meant `psychiatrist' ...

And yes it's definitely rooves. I'm amazed that you saw a sign that was actually correct, to be honest!

Lambjam - I also struggle with the emoticon punctuation conundrum every day.

    Both are correct.
