Talking Lost weight or put on??

    Howdy -

Not sure if any of you read my thread about being overweight - but Im in my first trimester and am heavily overweight..

So far I haven't really been doing anything differently except maybe eating a little less.. Maybe.. Except for the fact that I don't eat many veggies other than spinach and mushrooms and onion, but all of a sudden Ive been having at least one meal with broccoli and or carrots or pumpkin a week..

But Ive lost 3 kilos! Im not sure if I should be excited or concerned - what is everyone else experience .. (I havent been able to do anything but put on weight for the last 4 years - so losing 3kilos in 3-4 weeks is amazing for me)

Id really like to hear from people who are at least 20 kilos overweight please as Ive heard that if you are overweight you can lose and it is healthy as you have just added in a lot more veggies and or nutritious foods to the mix rather than a lot of junk food all the time..

How overweight are you? What is your BMI?

I've got a BMI of 27 or 28 and my goal weight gain is 7 - 11kg. Last pregnancy I started 2kg lighter & only gained 8kg overall, but I did lose 3kg by 7 weeks, then didn't get back to my pre-pregnancy weight until maybe 18 or 20 weeks then slowly gained after that.

Here's a link to suggested weight gain : http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/nutriti...ros-qr-eng.php BUT that assumes you gain nothing in your first trimester.

My SIL lost 12kg in her first trimester thanks to severe morning sickness. I wouldn't be too concerned about your 3kg weight loss, but I would be concerned if you continued to lose weight at that rate - maybe increase your healthy snacks just a little bit? What does your doctor think?

My BMI is over 30 so Im in the 5-9kgs weight gain..

The only reason it is odd is because I havent really had morning sickness - just a bit of nausea - so my eating habits havent realy changed.. And even when I have excersized madly and eaten healthy diets - I have still always gained.. It's the wierdest thing (or I may have lost like a kilo a month but thats like a max)..

So yeah I just wanted to see if this had happened to anyone else..

Havent spoken to my doc as he is the "you should have lost weight before you started trying - even though he knows I was on the reductils and still couldnt lose weight) so Im a little sore about talking to him about weight..

Was thinking if I dont get anyone on here in the same situation then I might source out a proper pregnancy nutritionist.. Im just not that wealthy so a bit reluctant to..

in between the time i found out i was pregnant (9 weeks) and about 16 or so weeks, i lost 4kgs. i was 98kg, wend down to 94. at 30 odd weeks i was around 100. at 37+ weeks i am now 104 or so.

before i was pregnant i had lost about 10kg and had been exercising but stopped soon after, due to tiredness, and the type of stuff i was doing (running, boxing training).

i think i lost weight to begin with was due to nausea. i havnt really changed my eating habits much, still eat lots of junk. and in the last couple of weeks, im constantly hungry.

Hey all I my starting weight before pg was 85 kg (sorry don't know my BMI) and at 165cm tall I was a size 16-18.
I'm now 36w pg and I weighed myself this morning and I'm 83kgs.
I never had morning sickness and just ate senably I eat more now than what I used to, I was diagnosed at 28w with GD so I'm now on a low GI diet. During the pg at around 26w I was around 87kg my OB said not to worry, bubs is growing fine so there doesn't appear to be any issues in that respect.
Good luck and maybe we were ment to be skinny mummas afterwards lol

    Hi,
Just before I fell pregnant (prob about 1mth) I had lost 6kgs, wasnt really trying, I guess just being more conscious because I was so scared I'd just pile on the weight whilst pregnant! Then in the 1st trimester I really lost my appetite just didn't eat dinner most nites! Still ate crap during the day tho and lost a further 4kgs I'm due next wk and have only put on those 4kgs I lost in the 1st trimester!!!
I've always been a chubby girl! Although everyone is telling me I look great being pregnant, shld just stay pregnant apparently lol!!! It's been great for my self esteem
I asked my dr if it was ok that I wasn't putting any weight on and she told me absolutely....she pretty much said (in the nicest way possible) that Bub is like a little parasite and they will take what they need from u! I wld say do not worry too much, bubby is getting all it's nutrients which is why ur losing weight I wld just recommend to make sure u take the pregnancy multi vitamin (not just folate)!
