I used gas with DS1, he didn't have any short term side effects, I stopped using it once i started pushing and it's too early to see long term ones.

I was forced to have an epi that resulted in an epi migraine for two weeks. I had 2 failed blood patches. I have little bladder sensation also and get nerve pain down my back and legs. Don't know if those last two are related. DD didn't appear to be affected though she had apgars of 9 & 10 and bf well.
Im still upset about my DDs birth.

With my first baby I was given Pethidine which made me feel so ill. I ended up having an epidural as he was in distress and it looked like I'd have to have a caesarian as I wasn't progressing. Lucky for me I went from 3cm to 10cm in 1 hour and was able to have a vaginal birth.
After he was born, I was so badly sick from the Pethidine that I could barely look after him for about 4 hours. I missed his 1st bath which I'm still so sad about (he's 15 now) and the initial bonding was so much harder with feeling so ill.
I've since had 3 more babies, all delivered with no drugs and have been fantastic births. I'm pregnant with my 5th now and plan the same drug free birth.
That one shot of Pethidine took so much away from me with my 1st that I'd never risk drugs again.

Both DSs were born perfect. Ds1 had scores of 9 and 9. DS2 had scores of 9 and 10. I had gas and Peth with DS1, and only gas with DS2.

ME on the other hand. I got 4th degree tears with DS1 and 2nd degree tears with DS2. Im fine now though.

She did though and was cold when she came out. She didn't scream when she was born, just gave a couple of squawks but her breathing was ok. She had to spend a lot of time under the heater for the next 24 hours or so but otherwise was fine.
The same thing happened to me, we assumed he was cold because we spent too long trying to BF immediately after the birth in a cold airconditioned room, but now I'm beginning to wonder if it was something to do with the Peth?

Thankfully I only needed gas & didn't notice any side effects on DD. She was alert & breathing within a minute.

My mum told me that for both my elder sibling & I, we both needed some drugs to counter the effects of the pethidine that she was given during birth. Was worse for my elder sister & she needed help to start breathing.
