It was a bit of a waste of time actually! I think I found out more info at the Enrolment info session.

I was booked in to sessions until 4pm but ended up leaving at lunch. I got a free diary though - yay! Lol

I suppose it was good to just look around a bit and find a few rooms and the clinical office etc

Thanks for asking , sometimes I feel a little lost amongst all the QLDers

Because of the huge train delays I missed out on going. I was stuck at Central Station for aaages. I was so annoyed and now from what you all said I'm annoyed that I put such an effort in to try and get there.

Was anything important talked about at all?

When are we going to be asked this?

Yep I was a little dumbfounded when she said that to be honest. It ticked me that more time was spent on where not to get tattoos then what we'd be learning.

From the sounds of it, it is something she asks us in our first tutorial when we introduce ourselves. She told us she always gets told that people want to be midwives because they like babies or have met nice midwives in the past, but she thinks that's not really a good reason to want to be a midwife. So I was left wondering what she thinks IS a good reason. I mean obviously just liking babies is not going to get you far since there is a lot more to being a midwife than that, but it just sounded condescending.

Anyway you didn't miss much. If you went to an info night or were at mandatory requirements session then you pretty much heard it already. We got told all about how critical immunizations are for the umpteenth time, got told tattoos need to be hidden at all times when on prac and that was about it. No other info on placements, textbooks or any of the stuff people actually wanted to find out.

Chrissy and Col, I was sitting in the second row on the far side of the room. Had a blue dress on and I have brown hair,,,

I am glad that I am not the only one who thought it was a let down yesterday. I would put a complaint in, but I don't want it to affect my grades.

She also mentioned that you dont 'really' need to buy the textbooks and that you can borrow them from the liarary and read online... i made a face a bit like this when she said it because i had already forked out hundreds of dollars for my textbooks all brand new!

But then in the sesion done by the Acedemic Skills people they mentioned that there is generally only 1 or 2 copies held by the liabry and some you can only hire for 2 hrs at a time... she also mentioned that although it is expensive it will be the begining of your own professional library, so that made me feel a bit better!

Also for ladies who didn know we will be following the APA referencing style rather than the common Havard style... you can find info on it at the link below from the ACU website. http://www.acu.edu.au/student_resour...ferencing/apa/

And one more thing, she advised purchassing the study guide from the co-op book store for about 20 dollars as it has lots of useful infomation and tips, particulary for non recent school leavers, also goes into further detail about the APA refernceing.

Thanks for that WW.. yeah i tried to borrow the fundamentals of nursing yesterday cause i just couldn't afford to buy the books yet, and you can only get 2 at a time because they are 7 day loans and you cant renew them!!! so it would def be easier just buying them.. also they charge 9c per A4 page for printing!
