Default Weetbix......what age can you give it?

    Hi,

My twins are 5 and a half months old and I was just wondering when I can start giving them Weetbix for breakfast. Also, do I have to mix it with formula or can I use cows milk.

    Thanks

I would start with something slightly lighter for their tummies. Weetbix is rather filling.
I started DS on Kids Weetbix when he was 8 months old. Until then I gave him Rafferty's Wholemeal Breakfast, Heinz Organic Cereal, and also just Farex Rice Cereal all of these mixed with fresh fruit.

Mix them all with formula to start with. Then slowly add a bit of cowsmilk to it. Yet I wouldn't start cowsmilk until at least 6 months of age.
If there is any lactose intolerance in your family, I'd wait until they're 12 months.
I mixed his cereal with breastmilk and formula until DS was 8 months.

I gave DS Rafferty's Garden cereal with breast milk until 7 months (from 5 month) when I started cows milk and weetbix but the health nurse seemed surprised I'd waited that long.

I personally didn't feel comfortable giving him cows milk as we have a few allergies in the family but if you feel ok with it just be extra vigilant the first couple of days.

DS started Weetbix at 7 months and only has boiled water on it. He also gets a yogurt on it and a bit of fruit too, which is the only way he'll eat it.

I'd start with Farex for a couple of months before Weetbix though.

I wait a little for Weetbix, it's pretty heavy and I feel the rice cereal is easier to digest. I usually give Weetbix around 8 months, however DS3 refused it until well after his 1st birthday. He loved the orange Rafferty's packet, I can't remember what it was called.

Re milk, if you're currently FF I would use formula until bubs is 12 months old. Cow's milk can be harsh on little tummies and difficult to digest, and I believe it's not recommended that you use it before 12 months except for the small amount that you'll find in custards, etc.

However it was my understanding that this isn't related to allergies. Unless they're on special formula a FF baby is already consuming cow's milk, which would demonstrate that they do not have an allergy.

i would try farex or a baby cereal first. I have heard that the salt content in wheetbix is not great for the under ones. I dont know how much of that is true but i think it would be better to try the ones designed for babies.
