Tonsil Removal PLEASE READ

Just wanting stories on those whose kidshave had their tonsils removed at 4-5 yrs old.
DS1 may have to (not definate) have his taken out as he has had almost 6 episodes of tonsilitis/scarlet fever in the last 6-8 months. How was there recovery, etc, if they had it out for recurrent tonsilitis have they had any more infections?

I will keep an eye on this, my 3 year old is having her tonsils out on Monday.

She hasn't had tonsilitis really, but has obstructive sleep apnea.

DS1 had his out at 4, he's had maybe 3 colds since then (he's 6) and he's over them within a day. He had really bad infections and sleep aponea (sp). Best thing we have ever done for his health. DS2 had his out at 2 for the same reasons and only just this week has he been sick (only becuase his grommets fell out)

Mahjong- sounds like they have been really well then. How was the surgery/recovery etc.
Sans Mum- DS1 tonsils big but i am sure there a re bigger no Sleep apnea that we know about, only frequent nightmares/waking (doubt its related)

thanks - DD2 snores. I taped it and played it to the ENT and he was quite concerned about the length of time she tops breathing for. not a big surprise really. DH and I both have sleep apnea and DD1 had her tonsils out last year because of sleep apnea also. fortunately DS doesn't snore.

I wont lie, it was TERRIBLE for our two lol. DS1 ended up back in for dehydration for 2 nights on a drip as he refused to even take pain meds so he could at least drink. DS2 it was hard too as he was only 2 and didnt understand why we did this to him. Within 10-11days they perked up and were eating and drinking as normal again.

They both has tonsils, adenoids and grommets in one go (not together obviously, 2 yrs apart for the ops)

My adivce, dont push the eating to hard, just be sure to keep the fluids up as much as possible and watch the dehydration. Any routines you have, forget them, just concentrate on rest, lots of cuddles, TV and sleep (sleep when he sleeps as nights are worse as the air is drier on the throat)

just wondering if anyobe else has any stories, we are now booked in for this month and i feel uncertain id we are doing the right thing. Now I know you cant help me with that but anymore stories would be great.

Our DD had her tonsils & adenoids out + gromets inserted when 4 yes old. Prior to that she was always sick and on ABs for ear infections & tonsillitis.

The op was very straight forward. The first night was a bit miserable cos she wouldn't take oral pain relief. She was then given a needle for pain relief all was great from then on.

Post op, she was a different kid - so much healthier and happier. Our only regret is not getting her to a specialist sooner.

we are home. it went well

I was surprised that she wasn't really worried about not eating or drinking while waiting. she was fine while we were waiting, then started to get anxious when they wheeled her to the waiting area new theatre. got more and more anxious as the pre theatre checks were done and clung to me when we went into theatre. she was happy to have the gas mask on and went to sleep no worries.

then pretty much has slept since. she hasn't really woken up for any length of time. she has eaten (a little), drunk (a little) and been sooky. lots of drugs and lots of cuddles - but I know with DD1 that she was pretty good just after, and then regressed on about day 5.
