Hi Everyone![]()
Just wondering how much paid maternity leave you got? The place where I work will kept my position for me for 2 years but they only pay the first 3 weeks![]()
Is this normal? It seems so low.

Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose. ~Helen Keller.
I don't get paid for anyand in my experience its not something a lot of employers do so I think it fab you get paid for even a few weeks.
Keeping the position open for you for 2 years is pretty good - most only give 12 months. And also paying you for maternity leave is a bonus.

I received 12 weeks full pay for my maternity leave, and I work for the state govt in health but most of the mums in my mums group did not get any paid maternity leave (two are teachers, one a scientist at a uni, 3 work in private sector).
My DH only got 1 week paid paternity leave (state public service). So I felt quite lucky to get as much paid maternity leave as I did (bearing in mind that I now don't get FTB A nor B)
One of the mums in my mum's group who did not get any maternity leave paid (working in the private sector), was lucky as result of this because her DH's employer gave him 26 weeks full pay paternity leave (he works for a university)!!

I got zero pay, and my position would have been held for the 12 months.

But loving this life of mine.
I recieved the option of either 14 weeks full pay or 28 weeks half pay ( i took the 28 wks) and at the end I was given the option to return part time OR apply for another one year leave without pay.
I work in the government/ health sector.
Paid maternity leave is pretty much non existent in Australia, so im pretty grateful for the 6mths half pay i got!

You are very lucky getting any PAID leave, and very lucky they are keeping your position for 2 yrs!
I recieved a big fat 0 for both times, and job only held for 12months.

I worked for a State Sporting Organisation, and our Employment Agreement was based on the government's, so I got 12 weeks fully paid and my position held open for 12 months.
When I worked in a more corporate environment, the 'standard' was to have your job held for 12 months, no pay.
I feel extremely lucky to have had ANY pay. I would have been happy to just have a job to go back to. I don't belive that it is an employer's responsibility to finance thier staff to have children (just my opinion).
I think that you have 2 years before you ahve to go back to work is a fantasitc deal.

I could choose between 12 weeks at full pay or 24 weeks of half pay.. I chose the 24 weeks.. and then taking 4 weeks annual once that is up.
