Default Phenergan Dosage 2 year old

DS had a bunch of gross swollen bites yesterday, so i took him to the GP who told me to give him phenergan 5mL before bed, or 2.5 mL twice a day.

BUT the bottle says you can give 5mL 3 times a day?

We gave him 2.5 mL twice yesterday, but the bite on his ankle is even worse this morning his foot is all red and swollen, all the others have gone down. So i wonder if i should give him a higher dose? I cant get back into the GP, but i can take him to the AH clinic after 2 if i need to

It isn't getting infected is it?
I use Zyrtec Children for my lot much gentler than phenergan we were told.

thats what i was a bit worried about, but he doesnt have a fever.

I just bought it cos it was what the gp recommended, maybe because its a bit sedating, it might stop him running around so much - hasnt really worked though

I'd listen to the doctor, give as little a dose as possible. Phernergan is pretty harsh stuff - I was bitten at the start of the week and was given phernergan and it sent me off my rocker, antihistamine poisoning. In future I'll be using something like Zyrtec like the PP mentioned, its much gentler. Can you try that?

I hope the bites settle down soon. Poor little thing.

I've always gone with polaramine liquid and savlon for bites, and checked in with the chemist if it hasn't improved to see if they can offer any other suggestions or if a trip to the GP might be in order. Phernergen makes me really sick for days after!

We took him to the pharmacy - thanks for the suggestion. She said that phenergan was the best for the type of reaction hes had, with little side effects. She said we could give 3x 2.5mL doses a day and to also put his eczema cream on it to help with the itching.

I feel a lot better now that someone else has looked at it and said that its an extreme reaction, but normal IYKWIM. Its still so horrible to look at!!

Better get some good insect repellant i guess!
