    Default New to it all

Hey, so not sure if this in the right place.

I have just bought a manual breast pump, i tried it out today and could only express 50ml at the most, the other time i only expressed 25ml.
My daughter is 11 weeks old and I am wondering how much she should be drinking. She seems to be full when I feed her, but worried as I didn't express that much at all.
Also, does anyone have any advice they could give me from past experience?

You can never express as much as your bub can take for herself. The 'experts' advise not using expressing amounts as any indication of what bub has. Check out Australian Breastfeeding Association and kellymom websites for good expert advice. On a personal note, i struggled with Manual pumps and found the electric ones much more effective - big difference for me in amounts expressed from manual bs electric.

If bub is content, and growing well. She is getting what she needs. My DD is 10 months and only drinks 140mls from the bottle (Most babies her age drink 240mls +). She is happy, sleeps well and has plenty of wet nappies. They are the best indicators. If this is the case there is no need to worry! If she is unsettled or not having many wet nappies then you may want to seek advice from the midwifes at the community centre, or your GP!

Good luck! Listen to your baby, they are all different!
