Question about weaning?

Is anyone in the same situation or been in the same one?

So my little one is 17 months and I thought by now he would not be so interested in the booby but he is still obsessed and will feed anywhere from 2 times a day to 10+ times a day.

I love feeding him but am a little over it to be honest.

My aim was always to hit 2 years and kind of self wean but that is only 7 months away and he has shown no sign of slowing down.

Has anyone else had these feelings of being over BF? And if no sign of self weaning how hard can weaning be?

It's completely normal to reach a point when you are over BFing. Many women experience it long before you have.

I fed my ds til 12 months and although the rascal refused a bottle/sippy cup of ANY kind in the last month of BFing I started to put firm limits on breast feeds. eg. no breast feeds overnight (eg. past 11pm before 6am). Eventually I think it was rules like that, that in turn resulted in a reduced milk supply and made him happy to wean. He didn't wean til I got really ill with gastro & he had to go to my mum's overnight (dh was away) and he took a bottle there. He came home the next day, had a big BF, then the next morning I woke up without milk and BFing was over. It was quite a shock!

For you, I recommend deciding on your limits. You shouldn't feel that you need to offer breastmilk 10+ times a day, especially if you don't want to. So, decide on what you want to offer (eg. once a day at bedtime) and simply be clear that at other times water or formula/cows milk will be offered, but not breastmilk. It's REALLY hard, but that's how you'll manage to wean with time.

We are similar situation - DD is 15 months and i honestly thought she would of weaned her self months ago but we are still feeding - i have days/times when i am over it - but she too is not showing any interest in stopping... I have managed to get down to one feed before bed and usually one through the night - just to help settle her (she does not sleep through the night... far from it actually)

Some great tips in here - Calling the hotline is a great idea, they are usually really helpful!

I was feeding the same as you at that age, and even as of her second birthday she had about 8 feeds that day between 5am and 5pm but then other days she'd have a feed before I started work, one in my lunch break, and one before bed at night. She was at work with me so had access any time, just didn't want to most of the time. She had days where she was attached pretty much the whole day and on those days I was over it but kept on going. she stopped at 2.5 and didn't need to go onto any other type of milk then, water and a full diet of fresh fruit and veges, grains and nuts were good enough for her. I'm glad now that I persisted with it how I did and didn't give in and offer any other type of milk to her because I think her diet then has shaped her diet now, and I wouldn't want her diet now to be any different to how it is.
