    Default Prom help.....

I am currently 30 weeks pregnant my waters broke last Monday 12th December at 29.5 weeks, I have had the full course of steroids and have had mild contracting every 3minutes since Saturday 4:00am, My last baby was prom and born 3 days later due to infection, I failed to progress after 19 hours of labour, 10 hours being on syntocin and ended up with an emergency c section. This time they want me to Vbac and I'm so frightened to go through it all again and feel depleted.

Has anyone out there prom? And how long did you last before delivery? The doctors want to leave me as far as I can go even with all the contractions & extreme tenderness I feel so selfish as I have now had enough and want this experience to be over, although I want the best chances for my baby. Anyones experiences will be greatly appreciated

You have done so well to last 8 days already, most people deliver within 24 hours.

I had PPROM with my first bub, at 28 weeks even. He was born at 30+1 weeks. I was contracting almost the entire time but because they weren't affecting him or making much difference to my cervix they let me go.

I can sympathise with you, I was over it after a week. I wanted the baby out, I was sick of being stuck in hospital with only toilet and shower privileges. But every day means so much to your baby, if you can get to 32 weeks you have given baby a much better start in life. 34 weeks would be even better and 36 weeks would be fantastic. It's a long road, but the emotional heartache of watching your baby in a plastic box struggling for every breath, is so worth every day stuck on your back in a boring hospital bed

My DS2 went into labour at 26 weeks, spent a week in hospital and then sent home on strict bed rest (with a 2yo at home ...) contractions everyday until he arrived at 34+3. The difference between the two is incomparable. There was never a question of life and death for DS2, where as DS1 was touch and go for the first 2 weeks.

If you ever want to chat, just PM me I wish you all the best and truly hope you can hang on to bub for another few weeks yet. Every day you are giving bub a much better start x

I am sorry you are going through this
Are you in hospital at the moment on bedrest.

I have an incompetent cervix and with dd3 was fully effaced and 3cm dilated at 26 weeks...6 days later my waters broke.
I had been in and out of hospital since 19 weeks and once my waters broke I was put on permanent hospital bedrest until bub came.
Constant u/s, antibiotics, pad checks, constant leaking and contractions...it drove me mad but I knew each day that bub stayed put was a good day.
At one u/s I had no fluid left at all and was told by the sonographer that bub would have to come that day...but the doctors where still happy to keep her in as the fluid replenishes all the time.
I lasted 10 days after prom...not because of labour but because my cheeky girl stuck her foot out...I went to the toilet and felt a tickle inside I itched it and was shocked to feel 5 little toes.
She was out 30 min later by emergency classical c-section. I was 28+1 weeks.
Similar story with ds4 but I didn't prom and only got to 25 weeks.

There was a girl in with me who had prom at 22 weeks and they gave her a c-section at 36 weeks and another who lasted to 34 weeks from prom at 30weeks.

It is very hard to be in hospital when you have other little ones at home, it is normal to have those conflicting thoughts. I think most people in that situation feels the same.
I had 5 others at home and my youngest was only 10mths old...I wanted to go home but I also wanted the best chance for my baby girl.
A nurse told me that each day bubs stays tucked up is 3 days less in the nursery...I don't know how accurate it is but it is what got me through each day.
The 3 weeks between my two made a huge difference...my 28 weeker spent 9 weeks in hospital and my 25 weeker spent 15 weeks.

Hopefully bub can hang on for a few weeks yet, take each day at a time.

Congratulations on the arrival of your baby boy.

I wish him all the best and a short NICU/SCN journey. I'm glad to hear he's skipped the ventilator
