Default Bottle to cup - what age?

I was talking to my mother in law yesterday and she asked me 'DS doesn't have a bottle anymore does he??? ' and went silent when I said yes.

DS is 13 months old. He drinks from sippy cups, but still has milk in a bottle through the day and at night time.

DS has never slept through the night, always waking for a drink at least twice (nothing else will settle him)

Just curious, am I doing something wrong? Is still having a bottle strange at this age?

Nothing strange about that at all. DD stopped having day time bottles at about 13 months and started having a sippy cup of milk at around the same age after lunch but still having a bottle at night. She stopped waking for bottles at around 16 months and DH started giving her a sippy cup of milk before bed while he reads her a bed time story.

I'm not a bottlefeeder, but mine was having sippy cups from early on with water and EBM but she was still having breastfeeds until well over 2 years of age, and nothing else would do, EBM in a cup would not have been the same as BM from the breast. I don't think it's a terrible thing, so long as they aren't going to sleep with milk on their teeth once they have teeth I don't see a problem at all with it. They give up when they feel they don't need it anymore, and the only time I feel there needs to be parental interference is if a daytime bottle is still being used in preschool, or a night time bottle is still being used once school has started. Most give it up on their own between 12 months and 3 years of age anyway.

The recommended age is twelve months. The concern is holes in teeth. Though thirteen months is certainly not unusual it would be better for his teeth to use a straw cup. With a straw the milk goes in further (missing the teeth a bit) and goes down faster. With a bottle the milk sits on the teeth more and can create holes. If he uses a sippy cup you can try putting his milk in that.
