Default Still bleeding after giving birth 8 weeks ago

Hi, just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this? I gave birth (naturally) to my DD1 8 weeks ago and I am still bleeding. Is this normal? Sorry if TMI but it isn't getting any lighter. It is like I am having my period. Thanks ladies.

    does it smell bad?
I've heard of retained placenta causing a long lochia period, but it smells really icky.
I think the 'normal' period of time is quite long, something like 80days (please correct me someone, I'm on my phone so can't google it)

I had retained placenta and I bled for 10-11 weeks but from 4-5 weeks onwards it was on & off.
What did they say at your 6 week checkup?

I had retained placenta. But I was passing clots. Are you passing anything that could be considered clot like? No matter how small?

    Mine didn't smell either.

Hello my bubs is 9 weeks today and I only stopped bleeding on Friday so almost 9 weeks later....have a funny feeling the last few days were a period though as it stopped for a few days before that. I saw the doctor at 6.5 weeks after giving birth and she wasn't concerned that I was still bleeding. I hope it's all ok for you as well. I should add that Mine was very light for the last few weeks.

My obstetrician wasn’t too concerned at my 6 week check-up (thought I could have moved straight into having my period), but suggested I call her if I hadn’t stopped in 10 days. I called her and she has suggested I go in for a gyno scan which Im doing on Saturday.

Im only concerned because it isn’t getting any lighter and I am passing very small clots every now and then. There is no smell though.

What is the treatment for a retained placenta?

    Thanks ladies.

It could also be an infection. I have had two uterus infections after each birth - the first one was so severe there was no denying it and was picked up within about a week.

The last time though It was so mild and I had just had a c/section so I felt bad anyway - it wasn't picked up for I think it was 9 or 10 weeks post partum. My temp never went above 37.5 so I never noticed.

When my chn discussed that there may be retained placenta she said they usually do an ultrasound and then a D&C if required.

Thanks for the info. I found out at my ultrasound it is retained placenta. Will need to have a D&C. Thanks again.
