Talking What to replace BF with??

    Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post or if it should be in weaning (I always think of weaning as stopping BF but I know it also commonly known for starting solids!) but anyway it's here now so I apologise if i'm in the wrong place.

Anyway, my question for all you knowledgable hubbers is- when you have weaned your bub of BF totally (my dd is 12months) what do you do to replace the act of feeding. I am about to drop my dd's last bf which is the just before bed one and I'm not what to do to get the same calming relaxing effect as bfing. Can anyone share their experiences? My dd has been a shocking sleeper and I'm terrified of upsetting our routine but it is time to stop bf for both of us.
Also, how much cow's milk do they need after weaing? I am not putting her onto a bottle but trying to give her some cows milk with every meal (mostly unsuccesfully!) in a cup.
    Thanks in advance!

The recommended intake of milk for your daughter is around 600mls per day or thereabouts (great variation between what your child may/may not take). If she really needs to settle "with the act of feeding", you may need to replace breast with a bottle of milk until she gets used to the change...maybe try your partner to give to her? As for not wanting milk with her meal, can you try the cup of milk in between meals as she may not be hungry with her meal - this might be a good time to just try water with meals and get her used to that as well as water is so important too. I know how you feel, going from breast straight onto a cup would be ideal but not all toddlers will like that and at 12 months, she may still need that comfort of suckling (and might tire her out too).
