Default Not Sure What to do

As some of you know DH lives in Nowra (NSW) and i am back up in QLD.

They are trying to get him a posting to Townsville with the RAAF, for 12 months, but we have been waiting nearly 2 months for them to approve it but we still haven't heard anything.

DH is here at the moment and goes back on Monday and i am dreading Mikayla's reaction, as she is loving him being here.

I feel so guilty about moving back here now as i should have stayed there and been more supportive of him, (mum keeps telling me you were sick) (PND) but i should have got through it for the sake of my girls.

If we are to move back there, i think we have to pay for it as the defence paid for me to come back home, but we haven't got money to go back...

I wish that we would come into some money so my girls will be happy as they will have there daddy back full time...

Sorry i think i just needed to vent...

    Hey there Mel

First of all - dont have ANY regrets about going back to Townsville. You did what you had to do at the time and you made the right decision. The time apart has made you realise what you want and helped you recover better than ever. That alone is worth more than anything else - you have gone through so much and you are such a strong woman. Please, dont let ANYONE tell you what you should or should not have done.

Secondly, its the defence force. They look at dream sheets (transfer requests) once a month tops, so chances are your piece of paper is sitting in someones in-tray. Try calling DHA daily - once they realise that you aren't going to give up on the request perhaps they will get their backsides into gear.

And lastly, have you guys thought about discharge instead?

I hope all goes well - and you know if you need to chat I'm always here for you

    Hey Ally

What they are telling us that it is at the last guy to approve it... which it has been for the last month He must not have young kids...

Ben can't discharge until 2008... unless he goes medical, but they will just put him on limited duties, and we have to watch it doesn't affect him later with jobs, since is he a medic.

Well DH has gone back to Nowra

But we heard from the posters today, he has been approved to come back to townsville for 12 months. but we ain't sure when it is going to happen.. as we have to wait for the army or the raaf to say they will have him... we should know by the end of september.

But if they say there isn't any room for him, we have to pay for us to move back down...

I am ex regular Army and was usually on the receiving end of issues like yours when I was in.

Unfortunately the posting process is never a quick one, and things can be held up for a myriad of reasons. My first suggestion would be to go to the unit your DH is supposed to being posted to which in TVL will probably be either 3 BASB or the med centre. There is a good chance his receiving unit knows things he does not, particularly if they have a vacant position they are waiting for him to fill. When this is the case it is quite usual that the receiving until will be ringing SCMA up and annoying the buggery out of them so they can get their person. Often this is occurring without the soldier even knowing it.

The other option too is for you to go and speak to the Padre's. You will be amazed at the power of the Padre's on occasion, and if there are compassionate or family circumstances in it most of the time they are quite keen to help.

I would not look at discharging without making sure your DH has a good job to go to. I am ex medical corps and many of our medics who did discharge with expectations of getting a good salary on "the outside" were sorely disappointed. To get a good job outside your DH needs to build up his qualifications. If he wants to keep in this field he should be able to get sponsorship through Army Education to partially fund him for doing studies towards medicine or one of the other medical trades. He could also apply to do the army pathology course and become a path tech.

    Good luck.

    Hi Tigerbluebear

Thanks for the information. He is going to the parde on Thursday to find out about me going back there as DHA wont pay for it.

We still haven't heard anything yet about the posting, but i know the Nowra is very short with Medics, so hopefully they will do it.

DH doesn't want to discharge as he is enjoying what he is doing, and was only going to if we can't be back together.
