Default Xbox kinect - safe or not?

We have just bought the xbox kinect and we absolutely love it! But... It uses infrared light to detect you and your motions and i don't know if having this light on me is safe for bubs. I can't find any info on the safety of this type of gaming device anywhere. I have read on other pg forums that ppl are playing with it but no one seems to have addressed the safety question. Can anyone help?

I didn't even think about how it works and if it would affect a bub inside. I am not pregnant but we were thinking of buying one for christman.. and thinking of TTC just after! So I will be reading this if anyone has some info too.

Would be interested to know. We were considering getting one for Christmas but didn't even think there may be a risk.

I'd be inclined to take the box to your midwife/GP and ask them, I'm not entirely sure there'd be many here qualified to answer it would be purely opinion.

    Hi!

I would ring the manufacturer directly, or email them over the xbox support page. Midwifes etc I think would only be taking an educated guess- Xbox would have surely studied the exposure rates etc. Always worth a try!

We have one and Ive been playing it. I'm nearly 12 weeks pregnant and didnt even think about the risk with the sensor, i was more worried about not jumping about too much I would think like honey said that xbox would have tested things like this and put a warning on the packaging if there were concerns. However I'd be interested to know the dealio.

Yer id imagine there would be a warning on the box if it wasnt safe for a pregnant person to use. Best bet is to phone the company

the only info I can find is for medical/therapeutic infrared therapy, in which case they say it is contraindicated for pregnancy and malignancies (if you have cancer). But it also says the reason is because they don't know how it might affect you.

I'd expect the level to be very low in a game device compared to a therapeutic one though but it could be a case of better safe than sorry if you are concerned.
