Default sorry, it's all about me....

sorry for the me post, but today I had appointment with FS after my last cancelled cycle - so dismal!

Basically my ovaries are really old, even for my age. He said I'll be going into menopause early for sure. he said it's pointless to test AMH as it would only confirm what we already know. He won't up the dosage (gonal 375) because it's like taking 6 panadols for a headache ie. unecessary, and you can't stimulate follicles that aren't there. I asked about DHEA - he said he wasn't allowed to prescribe it as the evidence is all of low quality (however he told me to get it from my GP). I asked about saizen and he said a definite no, it wouldn't help. He said I've done 1 'fair' cycle (resulting in DS) out of 3 so far, so the 'fair' cycle is probably a fluke.
His advice - try at least 3 more cycles and hope for another fluke. Short cycles this time, dosage gonal 300.

I have a second opinion appointment with another FS tomorrow and see what he has to offer??

As for what I think - I WILL get the DHEA script, I feel it's my only hope. I'm also taking CoQ10. Can't tolerate acupuncture unfortunately (too needle phobic after all this IVF!)

Well girls, hopefully I'll only be here for max of 6 months - either with a pregnancy or not. I just feel too old to be going through all this for too long - I would like to enjoy my life again and stop living as if I'm on hold.

I'll catch up on everyone and do personals later in week, but I hope everyone is going ok on this crazy and sometimes AMAZING journey.

    Nitey nite

Oh Mum4nay, I'm sorry to say it but I think your FS is full of $h#t. You definitely need a second opinion. I'm still putting together a scientific "care package" for you (I'll apologise now that it is going to be a long one from the giant nerd ). My first cycle was 300 and I had no response at all. All subsequent ones were 450 and I can tell you that 450 is a standard dose for us oldies. Some have even had success with 600, but that should be tried as a very last resort as there is evidence that it can have a negative impact on egg quality. It does work for some though.

You need to find someone that is linked to a university clinic and is actually involved in conducting the clinical research because then you can be sure that they are up to date with the literature and, more importantly, actually understand it. And you can tell your FS that if "stick-in-the-mud" highly conservative IVF guru Prof Gab Kovacs is prescribing DHEA to some of his difficult cases, then there must be enough evidence, anecdotal or otherwise, to suggest it is worth a try for some people.

I'll PM you as soon as I can. In the meantime, stay strong and don't let the b'stards get you down. I'm certain there is still plenty of hope for you

PinkB - I hope your tiny one has grown well overnight and is "the one". Good luck for today and take it easy over the next few days while it progresses to hatching

K2Chat - So many hurdles for your little one. and for you. But lovely heart beat and still growing which is very promising. I hope DH is taking lots of care of you.

    Sabah - and .

MustRP - congratulations, what wonderful news and I'm so happy for you. It must have been tortuous to have to wait so long to find out. Now the next lot of waiting for the increase and HB.

Melk - IVF can make us damaged goods and give us the expectation of disaster. I'm beside myself waiting for the scan because very high HCG can suggest a molar pregnancy which is supposed to be impossible with ICSI. However there are a few to many case-studies reporting molar from ICSI for my liking. But all of those things are really is out of our hands so we have to train ourselves to relax. Easier said than done of course.

JFBlady - Ooo I hope it works for you again.

Always - I hate that I tend to highlight and copy the message before I send or preview just in case.

    and to all

DrMummy - you're an absolute gem! Thank you so much for your post. I also look forward to my evidence package that's in the post And as for your situation - molar-smolar!! You are having twins my girl, I can feel it in my fingertips whilst typing this!!

AFM - sought my second opinion today from the private clinic and got my script for DHEA, did my blood test for AMH and will see him again after his holiday (arrrgghh). Overall very good consultation I thought. He's open to other ideas and suggested that public clinics are mainly for the production line standard protocol IVF ladies.... and that ain't me anymore. I do however have 1 cycle prepaid with them so will probably do that in Jan (they come back from their hols earlier than Dr Private - poorer I guess??) and then move on to the private world till my $$ runs out... ummm.

    bye for now,

Mum4nay, glad to hear your 2nd opinion was much more positive and you have some options on the table again. Time to start popping that DHEA and getting those follicles moving, now you have the greasy hair and skin to look forward to ...but it's a small price to pay if it brings success! Btw when is Dr S away for holidays?

Gotta love you DrM, you are the fountain of knowledge! What does it say about us IVFers, we have suffered so much disappointment that we are constantly looking at what could go wrong. I fantasise about what it would be like to do a simple POAS one day and feel joy...and no fear! I admire you for your efforts to stay but I'm betting with Mum4nay on twins!

PinkB, how did you go today honey? Snuggle, snuggle golden egg. Lots of

    Sabah, More for you too.

K2Chat, hope you're doing ok. We are all sending good vibes to your embie for a positive outcome and an uneventful pregnancy from here on in

MRP – awesome news! Congratulations to you and DH – enjoy cloud nine!

Mum4nay – I guess none of us would be here if our ovaries were young for our age – brutal to hear that said to you though! Sounds like your clinic don’t specialise in challenging cases so better to go to someone who does and who is more experienced with alternative options ie. DHEA. Glad your 2nd opinion appt went well (did you go to Maroubra? I was there this morning too). You’ve got nothing to lose by trying other options ie.DHEA ... well aside from money... and some hair! I hope it all goes really really well for you!

Dr Mummy - so hard not to stress i know. Its probably twins or triplets not a molar!!! Take care and rest up!

    Sabah

    Hi everybody!

Sorry I've been offline ... its been crazy town here, getting ready for Christmas and work stuff.

Dr Mummy, I'm with Mum4nay, no molars here please, its lovely twins I think! What a marvellous Christmas present that would be! Hope you are relaxing and enjoying the experience - its hard after IVF, we become accustomed to disappointment I think, so that we find it hard to embrace when the good times come around, as they have for you. I'm keeping my but I am also saying that I don't think it is necessary, that you are well on your nine-month ride.

PinkB: Snuggle in little embie! You only need one, as they say ... and I am praying this is the golden one for you.

MustRP: Hip Hip Hooray! Congratulations! What a wonderful early Christmas present - thanks Santa!

Hi to everybody else too - and lots of to all for both expected and unexpected Christmas BFPs! AFM had my tubes flushed on Tuesday (gross). Unfortunately my ovaries look like they aren't coming to the party - largest follie only 1cm on Day 9, but we will blood test again tomorrow. Am a bit blue because I was really hoping we could do an IUI this cycle, to take advantage of the post-lap, post-flush window. Here's hoping these ageing ovaries can kick themselves into gear.

Trying for two - hope your follie comes to the party so you can get an IUI in before xmas.

    Sabah - sending

Mum4nay - yes a big year for us and our credit cards tell the story at the moment . Hope you have a relaxing xmas planned.

AFM - talk about the twists and turns of this IVF - got a call from the lab to say one of our embies has risen from the ashes and is right on track at 8 cells for day 3. They said it must have fertilised after they checked on tues morning and was a 2 cell yesterday (not that they mentioned that!). Anyway now i am desperately hoping it progresses and we get a miracle frosty - 2 days to go though

    Hi to all
