    Default Not gaining weight...

Does anyone have suggestions for healthy weight-gaining food? Sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, but I am about 14 weeks and am still under my starting weight of when I first got pregnant. I know you aren't really supposed to gain much in your first trimester, but I know I need to start gaining slowly now. I am naturally a skinny build and lead a very active lifestyle with a relatively healthy diet, but I expected to be gaining some weight not losing it (especially with not having any morning sickness).

In addition, I'm a bit concerned that I haven't gained weight yet. Seems like something you wouldn't complain about, but I know that being underweight can be just as bad for baby as if I were overweight. When did you start gaining?

Not sure about what you can eat to gain weight but I didn't put one kilo on till like 28 weeks!

So I wouldn't stress to much at 14 weeks. At that age bub weights next to nothing
Be careful when letting go of things you think mean nothing to you, You just might end up looking back and realising you let go of something you wanted after all...

I lost weight at the begining of my first pregnancy and didn't get back to pre preg weight until about 28 weeks. Ended up putting on 10kgs above that by the end so I wouldn't worry about loosing weight at the begining.

Everyone gains weight differently during pregnancy. For me, both times, my weight didn't change until about 18-20 weeks, when I had a massive growth spurt and put on 4-5 kilos in 2-3 weeks, and then another similar growth spurt at about 30 weeks or so. The weight I've put on in all the other weeks has been fairly minimal.

Don't stress. I didn't weigh myself until 24 weeks with DD1 but with DD2 I had gained 2kg at 18 weeks. I'm underweight to begin with but it was no problem...my midwife wasn't even weighing me.

With DS (my third) there was more concern because at 16 weeks I'd gained 6kg which was a huge amount for me personally. But it slowed down and by the end of all three of my pregnancies I'd gained a similar amount of weight (13-14kg).

So long as you are eating enough nutritional food to supply baby with what it needs then there really is no need to worry (easier said than done sometimes though I realise ).

If you really are worried and would like to add a bit extra to your diet, try something like Sustagen Hospital grade from the Chemist (not the stuff from the supermarket). This will add exrtra calories to your intake along with extra nutrients so it's a win/win for you.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy
When an internet forum is able to make you feel like cr@p, like you have nothing to offer the world and you're a complete waste of space, that your opinions are irrelevant & even if they were relevant no one wants to hear them...... then it's time to leave.......

I was the same as you i lost weight in the 1st trimester and as soon as i hit the 2nd Trimester i started gaining weight. I think it is only a problem if you Dr is concerned. Don't worry it will happen.

Thanks ladies I am not in a hurry to gain weight if I don't have to this early, I just thought I was supposed to. I'll just add a little more protein and keep eating healthy. Thanks for the reassurance.
