    Default Temperature

DS just woke up for his dreamfeed and has a temperature. Had a big projectile vomit of about half the mllk I gave him as well.

My thermometer isnt super reliable (its one of those ear ones but its too big for his ear) but showed him as being 39.1.. Ive only ever known the thermometer to read too low, never too high, and he feels super super hot. (The forehead thermometer also said over 39).

He's 9 months ina few days so Im thinking its his teeth.. he seemed happy enough except that he's boiling hot.

I gave him some panadol and took off his singlet so that he's a bit cooler.

He's never had a temp this high so not sure what I need to look out for.

If its over 40 do I have to go to hospital or do I just control it with panadol?

As I said he seemed happy not distressed or in pain...

hope he has a good night and sleeps it off

    Any advice appreciated thanks!

Is this the first time he is teething? If not, was he like this with his other teeth?

I have to say that 39 is quite high for a teething temp. Does he have any other teething signs like rashes, red cheeks, excessive drooling?

I would give him Panadol as you already did and keep an eye on him. Give him lots of water as with fevers they'll sweat it out much faster.
If he still has a high temp in the morning, I would definitely get him checked out.

He's got his bottom 2 front teeth, but his gums have been all swollen up top for a few days now and he has been drooling.. not heaps but definitely more than usual. When he got the first two he was really sooky but I didnt have his teething necklace yet, which he has now (around his ankle not his neck).. so Im thinking maybe that is reducing any pain that he has.

Ok will keep an eye on him and if not better in morning (or by his 3am wake-up call to me) will def get him checked out.

    Thanks for the advice misschief

Ahhhh the teething necklace! DS was a horrible grumpy bub with his first 2 teeth. Then I bought the necklace and he was really good with his next 6 teeth. He did have the temperature, extra dribbling and nappyrash, but other than that you wouldn't know he was teething.

Goodluck hun, hope the temp goes down overnight. Maybe a good sleep will help too

Hi, we've had a few experiences with fever lately. Found this info from the Royal Childrens Hospital site helpful:

"Fever is when the temperature of the body rises to above 38°C. A normal temperature range for a child is usually up to 38°C.
Fever is a sign of infection in the body. Fever is often caused by a virus and sometimes by bacteria. Viral infections are far more common and do not need antibiotics. Antibiotics do not cure viruses. Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics.
A high fever does not necessarily mean your child has a serious illness. Fever itself is not harmful until it reaches 42.0°.
There is no advantage to lowering your child's fever except for comfort.
Treat your child by making them more comfortable; give clear fluids (eg. water, diluted fruit juice) and paracetamol if the fever is making your child miserable.
Fever is a way the body fights infection, and your child's temperature will return to normal when the infection has completely gone."

And it says to see the doctor is your bub has fever over 40degrees.

Seeing the Gp tomorrow will porbably be a good idea too.
Good luck, hope you get some sleep.
