Just wanted to say congrats to you newly preggy ladies,

Em - I'm sure it's different for everyone but like Tegan mentioned if you already overweight about 10kg seems to be acceptable/average number that tends to get thrown around. I'm 37 weeks now and have put on about 8kg so far (I was about 95kg before falling pregnant), not really expecting to add any more as I've been suffering pretty bad reflux over the last couple of weeks, it doesn't seem to be going away and it's killing my appetite.

Borealis - any luck with the birth stories?

    Ashley

    Hi other mums,

I had my first midwife appointment yesterday and both her and the doctor were quite helpful. They are obviously concerned about diabetes due to my weight so I have to have the GTT now to check that out, although I feel so good I don't expect them to find anything drastic. I was told that the best thing to do when overweight and pregnant is to maintain your current weight as much as you can. Trying not to increase your weight too much is the best way to avoid possible issues, but obviously eating healthy and some walking/swimming are highly recommended.

I'm glad things are going so well that I can really enjoy being pregnant. I think I'll struggle finding plus size maternity clothes for work soon, as I've definitely starting noticing my bump more this week. I'll have to have a good look around and see what I can find.

    Good luck to you all!!

    Hey ladies!!

Congrats to all you with recent bfp!!

I'm 26 weeks on Saturday... Wow time flies!!! All going well.. Got uti in the early days that wouldnt go away. Ended up hitting my kidneys and was in hospital couple days. Augh!! So now on antibiotics till bub is born.

I had gd test at 17 weeks and another one next week. Both times the two hour one.. Augh!! Oh well. My weight has been ok, didnt gain anything until 21 weeks and have put on 3kg. Not good but not horrible considering I really havent been strict with what I'm eating, not even close to how strict I was before!! I really should be better but being tired I just havent put in the effort. Really need to start walking and get some fitness!

Start our antenatal classes on Wednesday. So exciting but scary too cuz ill probably be there with 20 thin ladies with lil basketballs... And I'm.. Well... Not like them!!! My tummy is hardening up and people do think I'm preg usually so thats good.

The lil man is very active, especially when I'm laying down. I loooooove it!!! Best feeling in the world and had to wait til 22 weeks to feel him properly. Now I can watch the kicks on my tummy.

Got a few birth stories on the other thread so they were great to.read.

Have my baby shower next month... Yay!!!! Beyond excited for that!!!! Ordered a birthing gown from the states as I was worried about the little ones at hospital but new one isn't big enough to be comfy.. So my moms adding a panel for the back... Feel like a whale but ill be comfy and thats all that matters!! Will take tank tops for the tub. Also started organizing hospital bags and all the rest. Still a way to go but I'm a major organizer!!

So how are ya all going?? Lets pump up this thread a bit!!!!

Borealis that's a shame about the antibiotics but glad your enjoying everything else at the moment. I really liked the 'middle bit' of my pregnancy where your at now, I found 1st trimester stressful and 3rd is turning into hard work.

I agree, let's get this thread going... In that vein here is what's going on with me at the moment.

Today I had a ECV, it was sucessful and much simpler than I was expecting. I'm SO GLAD baby has turned around, Babies head has been squashing my organs causing reflux and shortness of breath. Tonight was the first time in weeks that I could take a deep breath and eat a real meal.

This may be TMI but I fell in love with DH all over again last week. 2 nights ago I woke up in the middle of the night vomiting beef and vegi soup (I thought it was plain enough for my delicate 'refluxy' stomach but I was so wrong), we're talking sheets, bedroom floor, bathroom floor all covered with the stuff... DH wrapped me up in a dressing gown and sat me down in the lounge room with water and tissues while he cleaned up all the mess and put new sheets on the bed, then he ushered me through the shower and back into bed again without a single complaint or comment about the horrible job he was having to do. It really made me appreciate what a great guy I've got.

So, anyone else? What's up with you at the moment?

Nah, this isn't correct. The way the midwife explained it to me (I am quite a bit overweight!) is that the baby kicks from the inside, the walls of your womb and that's what you feel. You don't put weight on the walls of your womb so being overweight has nil to do with how early you feel it.

I felt my LO kick quite obviously from 17 weeks and a little softer from 15 weeks.

I had my antenatal booking appointment today (I'm 27 weeks) and the midwife and student midwife at the end made a few comments that aren't sitting right with me. I'm 165cm and 90kgs (starting weight was 87.9kgs).

I've had the 1hr glucose challenge (which made me feel sick 30min after drinking the liquid) last week. No phone call from my Dr with results, so I assume it was all normal. The midwife was pushing towards doing the 3hr one regardless after looking up my BMI. There are no other risk factors. I explained that the 1hr one made me feel very sick and wasn't sure how I would handle the 3hr with fasting. This was met with a well let's see what your other results say, but we would still like you to have it.

The other thing was I want to use the birth centre / natural birth options. Again my BMI was brought up with a "well that should be ok." It never entered my head that it wouldn't - not because of BMI.

I think I just feel let down by the whole appointment. I was really excited to do this today and was feeling great about my weight gain during pregnancy but now I feel like I've failed.

    Hi Lulu,

Try not to let them get you down. I'm the same height as you and had the same starting weight (87kg) as you with my second. This was never raised as an issue with me by my ob and only had the 1hr glucose test. No problems/complications in birthing. I put on about 17 kg I think during that pregnancy. Your gain of only 2 kg this pregnancy so far is much less than I would have by the same stage as you in my second pregnancy. People can be so inconsiderate!

Hope all goes well and keep enjoying your pregnancy and stay excited! Ignore the BS!

Hi lulu.. It sucks your encountering attitudes. I'm 175cm & 135kg. Huge. I have done the two hour gd test twice this pregnancy. I'm 29 weeks now. But honestly my weight hasnt gone up, NO gd and perfect bp. Bub has also hit every mark and measures every scan TO THE DAY, seriously. They comment everytime that they have never seen such a well scheduled baby. so I dont get comments anymore, I was obviously meant to have this bub... And were both very healthy. So although I had planned on having lapband before getting pregnant, just because someone is overweight doesnt mean they are destined to have a bad pregnancy. The lady that took my blood last said she was so sick of the stigma around overweight woman having hard pregnancies cuz she reckons most handle it way better. Each situation differs but dont be downheartened. & dont take their guff either!

    Xoxo

Thank you for the support ladies. I've had a sleep on it and feel much better after it and the venting. I tried to explain to DP but he didn't quite get it, though he tried.

She's only one lady with her own ideas. My GP hasn't had any problems with me or my body and I trust her.

I have never encountered any negativity with being overweight/obese while pregnant. With my second child i weighed 140kgs i now weigh 145ish im also 5'10 not once did they really say anything about my weight. Now that im going to a different hospital though i do wonder if i will get negative comments.

Im quite shocked at that post about the midwife telling someone to lose weight and only live on water that is just horrible. I would have reported her!

*Massive hugs to anyone who has been given negative looks or comments for being big while pregnant*
