Yes, very sorry that there's a few more people joining us here on this thread. I do recommend that you spend some time and go back to read the thread from the very beginning. It gives such a good picture of where many of us were when we first started this journey too.

Allykat.... yes, from your description it sounds like your DP is having a mTESE procedure (the most intrusive, but final straw) rather than a TESA (needle aspiration). Yes, bags of peas and those soft ice-packs will definitely be needed. The first 24 hours weren't too bad as he had lots of drugs still in his system, then dreadful for a couple of days, and yes, a good week before going back to work, but two weeks until he was feeling anywhere near normal again. We only got one sperm from it, which fertilised the egg, grew to day 5, but was a BFN. DH considered doing it a year later, but really we had moved on by then, and wouldn't put our hopes (and money) into such a slim chance. We've been using donor sperm ever since then, but thankfully, my DH was always open to using DS (he said he kind of knew that there was something wrong, blaming it on having large doses of steroids when he was a teenager due to some serious sporting injuries). It's all about taking one step at a time.

    Hi bbhope 😃

    What is OA?
I'm in Vic and go to Monash Ivf.
    DH has small testes-genetic misfortune😒
My FS has told me that we could keep going and going with dh sperm but it is so terrible that she doesn't recommend it as we are wasting time and money.

@Jadette OA is obstructive azoospermia. The thing is there is lots of research out there that says thst they don't know if there will be sperm until they open them up.

    Thanks @Malak,

I am not going to get my hopes up.
We shall see what happens and hope for the best but expect the worst.
My biggest gripe is that we seem to have to do all our own research and squeeze docs for further info. I guess that just tell us what they think we need to know. Feel like a mushroom a lot of the time!!

@Jadette it is really hard because you don't want to get your hopes up but at the same time you want to be positive.

I know what you mean about doing your own research same here and the inconsistency between what the urologist told us and his secretary. He told us can do the TESA at any time but no the secretary said he only does it 2 times a month and they confirm with the hospital 4 days before hand. My biggest gripe is not knowing until 4 days before. DH works in a rostered environment so needs to request the leave ahead of time. If there is no spot available at the hospital then he wastes leave. If it doesn't go ahead I will change and find another one that has different procedures.

I am just glad ours didn't say "sorry no hope" he said "we will try everything we can so you can have lots of little DH's".

@octonaut thanks . Did your DH have high FSH and small testicles? Did he do the mTESE?

It is great that you were able to have a family

    So much time wasting!
Yep my DH is a sub contractor, so day off equals no money.
I feel like maybe we should change Drs. I feel like a number not a person with feelings. Your Doc sounds like they will do whatever it takes for you which is what I thought all would be like, you have got a good one😃

Yes, he did have both those symptoms. He had the mTESE and unfortunately the doc nicked a vein. He ended up with baseball sized swelling, no exaggeration, and almost had to go back into surgery to stop the bleeding. He needed a month off work and at the time we felt it was all for nothing. We moved on though, eventually!

@Jadette sometimes it is hard to know if you have the right one or not.
@octonaut that is bad that happened! You would think they would take more care.
