Default What age did your bubs start recognizing and identifying things??

Took DS to GP today to have his ears checked.
He is 10 mths old. She has a toy bus on her desk that he played with. When she asked about his language etc I said he can say Mama and Dad and uses them in context sometimes and that he recognises and can point to objects. She asked me to clarify so i said i can walk him into his room and ask where is the cot, where is the mobile etc and he will point to them.

She asked if we could demonstrate so I asked DS wheres the bus?(hadn't used that one before today), wheres the door? and wheres the light? and he pointed to all of them in turn.

She seemed surprised. Is this normal? What age did your bubs do this?

Im asking cos DH is all excited that we have a genius

and i thought it was completely normal (but never having had a bub before didnt know )

wow looks like yu may have a genius there hun..

DS is 11 months n no he cannot point out at things the way yur bub did.

He does know what a balloon is and can go to play with it if I just say "ballooon" in an animated voice.

He doesnt clearly say Dada and Mama but says mamamamama and dadadadaaaa

But he can do hi five, shake hands and wave bye bye ( this all depends on his mood though but he surely knows it and remembers it ) cos I taught these things to him from when he was about 6 months old. I used to keep repeating these with actions every morning.

But he still wouldnt do it all the time, only some time when he feels like it and also forgets them sometimes.

So I think you have a genius there for sure and maybe thats why the GP was shocked as its not usually something tht 10 month bubs would do for sure.

Sounds like you have a clever lad!

DD is nine months and can say mama and dada and can clap, point to my nose, wave and dance (wobble from side to side) if I ask her but that's it. Most of it has been learnt through repetitive play.

love the dancing bit very cute.

DS doesnt roll or crawl or move in any fashion- so i guess he had to be doing something developmentally.

Its really difficult that he wont move at all. He sits and babbles and points at things all the time going 'da?' so we started telling him what he was pointing to. otherwise he spends hours a day yelling in frustration because he cant reach toys or anything he wants.

I only noticed the pointing in recognition thing yesterday and didnt think it was something unusual.

Anyone elses bub doing things like this?

I realised this morning that bubs is imitating how I sip on my coffee... I used to keep saying it to him " Hoottt" by showing the cup and then sipping and used to do " haaa" so he knows I was saying that the cup is hot.
This morning when I was sipping on the cup he started making the noise " haaa"
and I realised what he was doing,,, cheeky monkey hehe

I guess every child has their own timing of each and every developmental milestones some of which are genetic. So it might be a good idea to check with your parents when you as a baby had started crawling, walking etc.
