Default How many cycles for AF to return to normal?

    Hi Everyone,

I hope it is ok that I've put this thread in this section....I would like lots of opinions/experiences.

I just wanted to know, how many cycles did it take for your AF to return to normal? For my own experience, I'm mostly interested in how long it took for those breastfeeding - BUT i know that everyone's experience will be useful for others reading this thread

My DD is 14months, she is on 2 feeds a day and so far I've had 3 cycles, the first was 42 days, then 23 days and then 15 days. I don't think I've ovulated in any of them.

I'm TTC#2 and I think my breastfeeding is interferring.

Just want to get an idea of how much longer I should continue to let things sort themselves out, or do I need to wean DD.

    Thanks everyone

    AC

PS - I'll try and add a poll (multi choice)

I was advised by a wonderful group of women that it can take around 5 cycles for it to settle into a bit more of a predictable pattern.

I am still breastfeeding full time (though he is 18mths he still has BF baby poop, heh) but have had two cycles so far.

First one I knew was coming a day beforehand because of the crampy feeling etc but the second one came at a month and a half. So I'm not sure what is going on with that!

Give it time, the BFing won't be making your cycles change, the opposite actually, your milk production amount and taste will change throughout your cycle.

Hope that helps to answer your question.

12 1/2 months, and still no sign of AF. I stopped BFing about 3 weeks ago, so hoping something happens soon!

    I ticked other

Between #1 & #2 and #2 & #3 I had two cycles only 21 days apart(my old normal) before conceiving the next one.

After DD2 my cycles still hadn't gone 'normal' when we conceived 7 months after AF returned (though we'd been TTC prior to AF returning) but ended in a MMC and needed a D&C, after which was closer to normal but not close enough and still not regular when we conceived DD3 5months later when DD2 was 26mo.

Now I've said months as my cycles were all over the place some were longest was 51 days long and shortest was 24days during that time so rather difficult to remember how many actual cycles.

I got AF back at about 7 months after I had my ds ... exactly 10 days after I started my ds on 3 meals of solids/day. BUT he was still having 6 BF's/day and when AF arrived he was back to 1 - 2 meals of solids/day so I was extremely unimpressed!

Then AF was back to normal straight away (28 - 35 day cycles) despite my BFing my ds a lot til he was 12 months old. I'm pretty sure I was ovulating but I wasn't charting as I wasn't trying to get pregnant at the time.

mine did not return until DD was 3 and have never been normal, sometimes they are 2 weeks apart, other times can be months apart so a bit all over the place really.

I have had 4 periods since bub - they returned 3 months after his birth. They have been regular however instead of my clockwork 28 day cycle before bub, it's now usually a 33-35 day cycle.
Sometimes I'd buy Vogue instead of dinner. I just felt it fed me more.
