    Default Just want to vent!!

DH rang his mum on Tuesday night to ask if she could babysit for us this Saturday night so we could attend a friends birthday party. He said he didn't mind if it was at her place or ours but she said she would have to think about it and check with DH's dad as they might want to go to the movies and did we have anyone else we could ask to which DH said no as most of my family live interstate I have a sister that lives close by but she has 2 small boys of her own.

DH called back last night as we hadn't heard back from her but she wasn't home he left a message but she hasn't called back. I feel really pi**ssed off!! Not because she won't babysit but because she has never made an effort to have a realtionship with my children.

This is the 2nd time this year we have asked her to babysit - the first time she said yes if we could find a babysitter for one of them so she wouldn't have to have both of them so DS1 had a sleep over at my sisters house.

She looks after SIL kids all the time and talks about them a lot and visits them etc. but we live 20 mins away from her and she only ever comes to our house if it's one of our family member's birthdays.

My boys have a much stronger bond with my parents who live interstate than they do with DH's parents who live 20 minutes away.

Just needed to get that off my chest so I don't rant and rave to DH about his mother tonight when he gets home!!

Sounds to me like she definitely has a problem - do you have any idea what it may be? The fact that she won't look after both kids at the same time may be a clue - she feels they are too much for her?

IMO your DH needs to clear the air with his mother to sort this out, it is awkward for you to do so, but I would say he should do it sooner rather than later as otherwise the situation will just continue and fester.

I have a similar situation but it is my own mother avoiding babysitting or seeing much of her only grandchild! She has always been a distant mum to me, though, so I guess I couldn't expect much. Luckily my MIL is great.

    best of luck.
